IMPROVEMENT IN STOPPERS FOR-WASH BASlN OVERFLOW-OPENINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 176,907, dated May 2,1876; application filed April 4, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EZRA WEBB, of the city, county, and State of New York, have in vented a new and Improved Stopper for. Wash-Basin Overflow-Openings, of which the following is a specification:
Figure l is an edge view of my improved stopper, illustratingvits use. Fig. 2 is an edge View of the same, enlarged; and Fig. 3 is a face view of the same.
, Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved device for preventing sewer-gas from escaping into the room through the overflowopenings of wash-basins, and which shall be simple in construction and convenient and effective in use.
The invention consists in an improved stopper for the overflowiopenings of wash-basins,
formed of the back or plate and the projec tions, as hereinafter described.
A is the back or plate of thestopper, which is made of wood, hard rubber, metal, or other suitable material. To the face of the back A are attached projections or plugs B, equalin number to and arranged in the same relative position as the holes in the overflow-opening in the side of the wash-basin. The projections B are made of cork, rubber, or other suitable material that will make a close fit in said holes.
When the discharge-opening of the basin is closed with the ordinary plug, and the overflow-openings with my improved stopper,'it will be impossible for any sewer-gas to get into the room from the outlet and overflow pipes of the wash-basin.
The stopper A B is designed to be connected by a short chain with the chain of the ordinary plug, to prevent it from being lost, and to call attention to it when the basin is being used.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- An improved stopper for the overflow-openings of wash-basins, formed of the back or plate A and the projections B, substantially as herein shown and described. 7
' EZRA WEBB.
