MOUN'EING FOR ,A DRIVING AND DRIVEN DEVICE Filed Nov. 3, 1925 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Patented July 1, 193$ mater warren stares earner crates HUGH WALIiACE AND FRANCIS E. STEVENSON, F DAYTON, OHIO, ASSIGNORS, BY MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, TO FRIGIDAIRE CORPORATION, A CORPORATION OF DELA- WARE MOUNTING FOR A DRIVING AN D A DRIVEN DEVICE 1 Application filed November This invention relates to improvements in apparatus for mounting work devices which are operativelyconnected, and particularly to such devices as are used in connection with refrigerating machines. 7
It is among the objects of the present invention to provide a niounting device of simple structure and design for operatively connected driving and driven members. Another object is to provide for the adjustment of either of said members relative to the other for purposes of maintaining efiicientoperating connections.
Further objects and advantages of the present invention will be apparent fromthe following descriptiom reference being had to the accompanying drawings wherein a preferred embodiment of one form of thepresent invention is clearly shown.
In the drawings: v j I Fig.1 is a side elevation of the refrigerating machine, a cover portion being removed to show the compressor element.

Fig. 3 is a view taken in a direction of arrow 3 in Fig. 1; y

Fig. 6 is a detailed sectional view taken along the line 6-6 of Fig. 4.
' In the mounting of work devices comprising a driving element and a driven element it is desirable to make provision for adjusting the relative positions of these elements. This is frequently the case in compressors driven by motors and particularly those used in iceless refrigerators. Such means for ad justment should be readily accessible without necessitating dismounting of the apparatus. These features are provided by the arrangement herein described.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 20 designates the cabinet of the refrigerating machine having a compartment 21' including the operating mechanism of the refrigerator. This mechanism comprises the driving member or electric motor 22', the driven member 3, 19261 .Serial No. 145,933.
or compressor 23 and the condenser 24. The motor 22 and the compressor 23 are provided with pulleys 25 and 26 respectively, operatively connected by means of the belt 27. Conduit 28 provides communication between the compressor 23 and the condenser 24.
In the chamber 21 of the refrigerator there is provided a mounting platform comprising parallel side members 30 and 31. Each of these side members are of angular construe tion having right angled arms 3233 and 3435 respectively. The respective arms 32 and 84 of the side members30 and 31 lie in thesame ho izontal plane and extend toward the axis of the mounting frame. Si'demem ber 30' is provided with a longitudinal channel 36 formed: betweenthearm 32 anda strip 37, which strip is held'in-spaced relation with the arm' 32' bymeans-of a pluralityof spacer blocks 38', interposed between said arm and strip. Screws 39 secure the spacer blocks. 38 and the strip 37 to the arm 82.
The mounting platform 40 supports the driving element 22. Any number of suitably spaced: apertures may be provided in this mounting platform. so that various motors, having different spaced apertures for receiving'mounting studs 41-, may be secured to this platform. outwardly extending flanges 42 and 43 are provided on opposite sidesof the platform 40, the flange 4 2 being adaptedto. be'
supported slidably in the channel 36. The flange 43 rests upon clamping members, comprising head portions 48 and screw threaded stud: portions 49, the through apertures formed in the arm 34 and having nuts 50 thereon; As shown in Fig. 4 thefiange 43' resting upon the head portions 48 of the clamping members, is adapted tightly to be clamped between the head portions and the arm 34 of the member 31 when the nuts 50 are screwed against. said arm. On the other hand when the nuts 50 are operated latter extending in the opposite direction, the heads 48 will be moved away from the arm 34, thus releasing the clamping members and thereby permitting the platform 40 tobe slid in the channel 36: and thechaimel formed between the heads 48' and the arm 34.
Platform 40 has an ear 51 formed thereon in such a location that the screw threaded aperture 52 in said ear lies intermediate the members 30 and 31 of the frame.
Cross bars 55 and 56 are supported by the side members 30 and 31 in spaced relation, screw studs 57 holding the cross bars rigidly in position. The compressor 23 is rigidly mounted on these cross bars, being securely held thereon by studs 58. Cross bar 55 has a downwardly extending apron 59 provided with a curved slot 60, the closed end of which lies in axial alignment with the screw threaded aperture 52 in the car 51. v
The means secured to either one of the driving or driven members and engaging the other of said members for adjusting the relative position of said members on the frame, comprise a screw having a shank portion 60 screw threadedly engaging the aperture 52 of the ear 51. A yoke shaped head is provided on the screw, said yoke shaped head comprising an intermediate portion 63 having flange portions 61 and 62. Intermediate portion 63 is of such diameter that it may be inserted in the slot 60. the flange portions 61 and 62 engaging with opposite sides of the apron 59 when the screw is so inserted in the slot; In order to facilitate the operation of the screw, flanges 61 and 62 are hexagonal shape to receive a suitable tool.
As has been mentioned heretofore, this device is provided for purposes of maintaining eflicient connections between the motor 22 and the compressor 23. Should thebelt 27 be too loose, the motor 22 would not drive the compressor 23 properly. In such a case the nuts 50 on the clamping members should be released and then the screw, interposed between the compressor and the motor, should be operated so that the screw threaded connection with the motor platform will move the said platform away from the compressor. \Vhen the belt has been properly tensioned, the nuts 50 should again be tightened, thereby rigidly clamping the motor supporting platform 40 in postion on the frame. Should the belt- 27 be too tight, the platform may be released and the screw operated in the opposite direction.
It is apparent that since the clamping or locking means 50 and its related parts are located on one side of the frame, preferably the front side or the one accessible when the door of the refrigerator compartment is removed or opened, adjustment of the apparatus may be effected very conveniently and without requiring the operator to reach in behind the body of the motor, intervening piping or the like.
While the form of embodiment of the present invention as herein disclosed, constitutes a preferred form, it is to be understood. that other forms might be adopted, all com ing within the scope of the claims which fol- \Vhat is claimed is as follows:
