This invention relates to a collapsible drum.
The present invention is adapted particularly to be suspended from the body when '5 marching and when not in use to take up less space and be thinner than an ordinary drum and also to be of such construction as to automatically unfold into operative position when applied to the body.
It is aimed to provide a drum which may be readily collapsed and which is relatively light in weight and is primarily adapted to be made of metal so as to present a polished finish.
Another object is to provide a novel construction of drum head possessing the advantages and details as hereinafter described and illustrated in accompanying drawings relating to one preferred embodiment.
In said drawings Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of the improved drum;
Figure 2 is a top plan view;
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view taken partly through the drum on the plane of line 3-3 of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 3 but with the drum parts retracted, and
Figure 5 is a detail sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 1.
Referring specifically to the drawings, the drum is composed of similar heads at each end as generally designated A. Each head consists of a ring or shell 1() having a smaller outer ring 11 fastened thereto or forming a part thereof. Across the outer end of the shells 10, skins 12 arestretched, Whose margins may be fastened around hoops 13 and opposite which detachable securing hoops 14 are disposed. rlfhe requisite tension or pressure on the skin 12 is imparted by means of securing members B each consisting of hooks 15, respectively engaging the rings 1l and hoops 14, and engaged by threaded ends .16 rotatably engaging bearings 16, the heads 16b of said ends 16 being polygonal to for engagement by a suitable wrench or other tool.
Each head has any desired number of snares 17 arranged in coacting relation with the skins 12.
The snares 17 are guided through openings 18 in brackets 19 and through an openings 10 in hoop 10 and having one of their ends secured to a follower 20 engaging a threaded end 21 that is rotatably mounted in a bearing 21LL secured to ring 11.
The inner surfaces of the shells 10 are provided with rings 22 having inturned flanges 24 and adapted to telescope within the shells are body sections 23 having flanges 25 adapted to engage flanges 24. Additional body sections 26 are adapted to telescope within the sections 23 and within each other and a connecting body section 27 is employed therefor, preferably havi through. The section 27 rected flanges 29 engaging flanges Sections 26 have inadjacent sections 26. terengaging flanges at 31 engaging ianges sections 23, of aluminum and have faces highly polished s pleasing eect.
The various sections be held together by m adapted to engage hoops is collapsed, as shown in nating turn buckles enga 33 on the sections 23. 26 and 27 are preferably made ng a port 28 therehas oppositely di- 30 on the and also flanges 32 The their exterior suro as to present a described enable the drum to be collapsed into Figure 4, and in such form,
the forni shown in the heads may eans of hooks 34, 14 when the drum Figure 4, 35 desigging the oppositely threaded ends of said hooks 34 to tighten them in engagement with hoops 14.
If desired, a single head may be used as a complete drum since it is provided with both a pin and with a snare or snares.
Various changes may be resorted to provided they fall within the spirit and scope of the invention.
I claim as my inventio 1. A drum comprising tively rigid body section and adapted to telescope relatively rigid body sections first mentioned body sections telescope therewith.
heads, and relas connected thereto in said heads, and
and adapted to 2. A drum having relatively rigid body sections in telescopic relation,
sections having coact-ing connecting the certain of said rsfsie"
hook flanges, and a 1 'a connecting body section engaging adjacent flanges and having its flanges extending in opposite sections.
3. A drum having heads comprising shells, 5 flanged rings on the interiors of the shells, relatively rigid body sections adapted to telescope Within the heads having anges to engage the flanges on the shells, body sections eoacting with the first mentioned body sections and adapted to telescope therein7 said body sections having coacting hook flanges.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
