Description

D. H. MOORE PLOW SHARE June 24, 1930.
Filed Feb. 24, 1928 Je/zwzr/Z/Voafe INVENTOR BY 465a! I ATTORNEY wnmsss: W
Patented June 24, 1930 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
DELMER I-I. MOORE, OF GREENVILLE, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO PLOW AND IMPLEMENT COMPANY, OF GREENVILLE, MICHIGAN, A CORPORATION OF MICHIGAN PLOWSHABE Application filed February 24, 1928. Serial No. 256,721.
This invention relates to a plow share, the general object of the invention being to form the lower edge of the share and its point with teeth so that it can readily cut through roots and the like and also to provide both faces of the lower part of the share and point with grooves which extend rearwardly at an acute angle to provide a share.
' is formed with the usual point 2. The
lower parts of the share and point are thickened on the rear faces, as shown at 3, and the thickened part is chilled so that it is harder than the front lower part of the share. The lower edges of the share and point are formed with saw-like teeth 4 and the front and rear of the lower portions of the share and point are also provided with parallel grooves 5 which slope upwardly and rearwardly, the grooves in the front being opposite those in the rear. These grooves are so formedthat the rear walls are much flatter than the front walls and each groove terminates at the front end of each tooth. Thus each tooth is of wedge shape in cross section with the narrow edge of the tooth facing toward the landside.
Thus I have provided a share which has great efficiency in cutting roots and the like and it will pass through the soil with the minimum effort. The share is also selfsharpening, due to the greater wear coming on the front face of the share which also acts to force the plow into the ground and the front face also wears quicker than the rear face, due to the fact that the rear face is chilled or hardened while the front face is comparatively soft. The share is especially designed for plowing alfalfa, sweet clover and other plants which have large fibrous roots.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the com- ,bination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
hat I claim is 1. A self-sharpening plow share having its edge formed with a plurality of saw teeth, with grooves in both faces of the lower part of the share, said grooves being parallel and sloping upwardly and rearwardly, each groove having a vertical front wall and an outwardly and rearwardly extending rear wall, with the vertical walls of the top grooves being in alignment with the vertical walls of the bottom grooves and said vertical walls terminating at the front end of each tooth whereby each tooth is of wedge shape in cross section toward the landside and the bottom face of the toothed section being hardened.
7 narrow edge of each tooth facing toward the 2. A plow share having its edge stepped and grooved to provide a plurality of teeth of wedge shape in cross section with the landside, said teeth sloping upwardly and rearwardly.
3. A plow share having its edge stepped and grooved to provide a plurality of teeth of wedge shape in cross section with the narrow edge of each tooth facing toward the landside, said teeth sloping upwardly and rearwardly, the lower part of the teeth being hardened and the upper face of the teeth of softer metal.
In testimony whereof I aflix mysignature.
