durable and substantial base which may be superimposed on the grave and is equipped with a transparent cover through which the flowers, carried by the base, are discernible.

A further object of the invention is to pro vide novel means for supporting the trans parent cover on the base in a manner which prevents displacement of the cover withoutdetracting from the appearance of the de vice.

A still further object of the invention is to provide an infrangible base which may be anchored in a grave and is used as a sup porting medium for the flowers, the base being encompassed by a transparent cover through which the flowers are discernible.

The above and other objects of the invention will be apparent from the following description of the present preferred form of the invention, taken in connection with the drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a top plan view of a holder and protector constructed in accordance with the present invention, the cover thereof being shown in dotted lines;

Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 33 of Figure 1;

The device of the present invention may consist of a base 9, as shown in Figures 1, 2 and 3 of the drawings, which is of oblong configuration and is made of metal or other suitable infrangible and preferably non-destructible material. Portions of the marginal edges at the sides and ends of the base are extended and depressed downwardly to provide supporting lingers 10, which Zpreferably lie below the plane of the base for a purpose hereinafter set forth. -'-The b'ottoml'; of the base is provided with a series of tubularlegs 11 through the medium of which the base is anchored in the ground. By making the legs tubular, it is apparentthat pressure on the base will urge the legs into 1 the ground and permit portions of the latter to enter the legs, so as to more firmly anchor the base. a v

The base is adapted to receive a transparent cover 12, as illustrated by the dotted linesin Figures 1 and 3. The cover is preferably of circular configuration in cross-section and has the marginal edge thereof seated on the fingers 10. By counter-sinking the'fingers 10, it is apparent that the cover 12 will complet-ely encompass the base 9 to better retain the cover and to produce a more artistic effect when the deviceis mounted on the grave.

The form of invention illustrated in Figures 4, 5 and 6, is similar'to that illustrated in Figures 1 to 3 inclusive, except that the base 9 thereof is of circular configuration and the supporting fingers 10 are located around the "periphery of the base. The

transparent cover 12 is .circular to conformto the shape-of the-base. This form of invention is used in the same manner as the form illustrated in Figures 1 to 3 inclusive.

The form of invention illustrated in Figures 7 and 8 of the drawings difiers some what from'that illustrated in theother figures of'the drawings, in that a cylindrical supporting base 13 is provided, the lower end of which is adapted to be embedded in theftop of the grave. Supporting fingers 10 are formedon the outer periphery of the base, approximately midway the ends of the latter; Between the fingers 10 and the top of the base I provide series of spaced lugs 14:. The base is made of metal or other suitable indestructible material and is adapted for the reception of a transparent cover 15. The cover in the present instance is of spherical configuration and isprovided with a reduced base portion 16, which is adapted to be are permitted to lie on the base in a horizontal position and are discernible through the transparent covers '12 and 12". In all forms of the invention the base is made of indestructible material, so as to last for an inde-finite period of time and when anchored in the grave after the teaching of the present invention, it will not -be casually displaced.
