Filed April 24, 1929 Rober- G. lTeflro Patented June 24, 1930 UNITED STATES ROBERT G. TETRO, F GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN DRINK-COLLECTING DEVICE Application led April 24,
This invention relates to a drink collecting device which is particularly useful in securing evidence of violation of prohibition statutes.
It is an object and purpose of the present invention to provide a device by means of which the prohibition enforcement agent may buy a glass of liquor, apparently drink it, yet collect the liquor for use as evidence in the court on trial, and the collection of the drink will be completely and entirely disguised. This is particularly useful as the production of the-intoxicating liquor sold atthe trial is much more satisfactory f' as evidence than is oral evidence of an agent that he bought and consumed liquor at a certain time, open as it is to all the attacks against oral testimony and to the further attack that an agent who consumes a considerable quantity of liquor in the course of a day is liable to impeachment as a witness on the ground that he was likely intoxicated and therefore his testimony is not to be believed. An understanding of the invention 4may be had from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which,
Fig. 1 is a perspective view illustrating the device of my invention and how it is used, and
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the device detached from the person.
Like reference characters refer to like parts in the figures of the drawing.
In the construction, a short vertical length 1 of small metal tubing is used, its upper end being bent at right angles, making a 4o short section 2 which is again bent at right angles, as indicated at 3, for a short distance 'and terminates in a downward extension 4 to which a section 5 of rubber tubing is adapted to be readily connected. The opposite end of the lower end of the tube 1 is bent outwardly to provide the substantially horizontal end 6 to which one end of a relatively long tube 7, preferably of rubber, may be detachably secured; The opposite end of the tube 7 may be connected with a fixture 1929. Serial No. l357,840.
8 secured at the end of a compressible rubber bulb 9.
A supporting rod l0 of metal is connected to the device in alinement with the section 6 described and extending opposite therefrom. The connection made is a permanent one as by soldering or brazing. At the free end of the rod 10 a finger ring 11 is soldered or.
otherwise permanently secured, the rod 10 being fastened to an outer side of the ring.
In the use of the device, the ring l1 is placed over the finger of the hand with the rod 10 and the other parts of the apparatus at the 4inside of the hand where it is completely covered and disguised. The tube .extends to the rear along the wrist and withplied where desired to ret-ain the tube in' position.
In using the device, the hand to which it is attached grasps the glass 13 and in engaging the glass the tube 5 is inserted at the inside of the glass the section 2 passing over the upper edge thereof and the vertical section l at the outside. The operator may lift the glass to or toward the lips and appear to be consuming the liquor held therein but, having first compresed the bulb 9 before the tube 5 is inserted into the glass, a release of the bulb will cause a withdrawal of the liquor in the glass through the tube 5 and the various sections 4, 3, 2, l and 6 of the metal tube and thence through the tube 7` into the bulb. The agent collecting evidence in this manner does not have to consume the liquor but has the liquor ready for production in court at the trial of the seller thereof.
The construction described is very practical and satisfactory and has been used to a considerable extent, proving its value. Many ininor changes in details of construction may be resorted to Without departing from the invention. In expelling the collected liquor from the bulb 9 it may bedesirable to detach the tube 7 from the section 6 and there are many Ways in Which this' placed over the upper edge of a glass, with one leg extending into the glass and the other located at the outside thereof attached to the finger engaging member so as to be concealed by the hand, a tube connected at one end to the leg of the U-shaped member at the buter side of the glass, and an air tight compressible bulb connected With the other end of said tube.
2. In a construction of the class described, a finger ring, a rod permanently secured to the inner side of said ring, a vertical metallic tubular member connected to said rod including a U-shaped bend at its upper end terminating in a short downwardly eX- tending section, a vertical iiexible tube connected to and depending from said section, an elongated rubber tube connected at one end to the other end of said metal tube and a compressible air tight bulb secured to the other end of said elongated tube.
8. In a device of the class described, a inger engaging means adapted to be detachably secured to a nger of a hand, means permanently secured thereto adapted to be located at the inner side of the hand and covered thereby for entering a glass held in the hand, and to extend away therefrom, said means having a passagetherethrough, an elongated tube connected at/l one end to the outer end of said last mentioned, means, and suction andV receiving means secured to the other end of saidv tube whereby liquid in theglass maybe vvithdrawn into said suction and receiving y means. Y v v y 4. In` a device of the'class described, a
tubular means adapted to be placed over the upper edge of a glass` and havingone en d portion extendingqinto the glass ,and the other end portion atvltheyoutside of .they
glass, means secured thereto vfor detachably side ofthe hand of a person, anl elongated suction and receiving means securedat the opposite end of the elongated tube adapted to be operated to withdraw liquid from the glass into said suction and receiving means.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
