UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JosEPH M. woRTHINGToN, 0E BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
IMPROVEMENT IN LABORATORY-TABLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 176,728, dated April 25, 1876; application filed February 7, 1876.
To all-whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOSEPH IVI. WORTH- .INGTON, ot' the city of Baltimore, State ot'- j Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Laboratory-Tables, of
Y having in combination therewith a revoluble polygonal chest or case, containing. drawers and a series of revoluble shelves, adapted to rotate independently of the chest or case, and above the top of the table, as and for purposes hereinafter described.
In the description of my invention which follows due reference must be had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, and in Which- Figure 1 is a side view of my improved table; Fig. 2, a plan of the same, and Fig. 3 a sectional plan of a portion ofthe invention.
Similar letters of 'reference indicate similar parts of the invention in all the views.
Ais the table proper, and Ba polygonal chest containing a series of drawers, adapted to revolve upon or with a shaft, b. The drawers, which are represented by c, are adapted, when the table isto be used by a dispensing-chemist, or one engaged in the compounding of prescriptions, to containl articles constantly in demand, such as pill-boxes, labels, &c., and may be marked to indicate their contents. The shaft b extends above the top of the table, and is fitted to receive shelves d, either circular or polygonal in shape, and
'adapted to revolve conjointly or separately.
The shelves are preferably'arranged so as to decrease in size toward the top of the shaft, and are provided with depressions of various sizes to suit the bottles placed thereon.l
My invention, as described, is specially applicable to laboratories or pharmaceutical establishments where two or more persons are at the same time engaged in the preparation of chemical compounds, or the compounding of physicians prescriptions. Persons using the table at either side thereof have access to any of the drawers, or to any ofv the vials or other articles on the shelves, without leaving their places, by revolving the chest or shelves until the desired drawer or vial is reached.
In the use ot' my improved table, the danger of using wrong ingredients in the preparation of medicines is materially lessened, as a single vial, containing a certain drug, may be used by several persons, each 'person' replacing it at'ter'nse. It also economizes space, and prevents the confusion necessarily entailed where two or more persons have to be continually leaving their stations in search of vials and other necessary articles.
Having thus described my invention, what l claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters .Inatent of the United States, is Y y A laboratory-table, consisting of a xed counter or table, A, a Vertical central shaft,
'and a revolnble chest of drawers, B c, with the 'shelves d revolving concentric-ally with said chest, substantially as herein specified.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name `this 17th day of December, in the year of our Lord 1875. y
JOSEPH M. WORTHINGTON.
