The invention is a sign comprising two In the design shown the plate 1 is made angularly disposed plates in which each of as shown in Figure l with the name of the the plates designates, first the intersecting intersecting street as indicated by the word street and also the street upon which the First at the top oi the plate as indicated by 5 bs ver i ituated, the numeral 1 and with a double end arrow 55 The object of the invention is to provide 5 interwoven with the word so that it will a sign for street intersections from which apparent that F i 'st Street would extend the observer may readily determine the names in both directions i'roni the intersection as of both the streets of the intersection at 2. indicated by the arrow. Below the word l First is the wordBlocks with the number Another object of the invention is to prostore it as indicated by the numeral 6 vide a street marking sign from which one representing the length of the street by the may readily determine his location upon number of blocks. The word Block is also both streets. placed on the other side of the plate with 15 A further object of the invention is to the numeral before it as indicated by the provide a street marking sign which may numeral 7 which indicates the number of readily be installed in a conspicuous locablocks from the end of the street. Below tion and readily read. these words is a space 8 in which the name of And a still further object of the invention the street upon which the observer is situated 20 is to provide a street marking sign which is is placed in large letters as indicated by the of a simple and economical construction. numeral 9 and at the lower side of the space 8 lVith these ends in view the invention eni is an arrow head 10 pointing directly clownbodies a sign comprising two rightangularly ward as shown. Below the space 8 are other disposed plates, and suitable straps for atrepresentations of the word Block as indi- 25 taching the plates to a post or other object. cated by the numerals 11 and 152, one of which Each of the plates is provided with the name will represent the length of the street by of both of the intersecting streets, the length blocks and the other the number of the block of the streets and the number of blocks from from the beginning of the street. It is unthe beginning of the streets to the intersec derstood that the wording described above 30 tion may be placed on both sides of the plate. Other features and advantages of the in- On the angularly disposed plate as invention will be seen from the following decheated by the numeral 2 is a similar rcpscription taken in connection with the draw- 'rcsentation of the names of the streets with h3g3 the names reversed so that the name of the i 35 Figure l is a view showing one of the intersecting street will be at the'top and plates. the name 01 the street upon which you are,
Figure 2 is a View showing the sign as at the bottom. it would appear when attached to a post. 'ihe strap 3 may be attached to the plate Figure 3 is a view showing the means oi as shown in Figures 2 and 3. The strap 40 attaching the sign to a post. may extend across the plate in the space Figure 4 is a View showing an alternate between the words First and Marion means for attaching the sign to a post. with the words Blocks and their correspond- Figure 5 is a view showing a means of ing numbers on the straps. The supporting attaching the signs to a corner of a build strap 3 may be made as shown in Figure 3 I 45 ing. and attached to a continuous belt 13 6X- In the drawings the device is shown as it tending around a post by rivets 14: with the u c be made wherein numeral 1 indicates inner ends of the ilates held to the straw b no 1 r ne of the )lates numeral 2 the other )iate bolts 15 and he outer ends provided with O l 7 1 I L i 11( numeral 8 the strap bv which the Jlates notches 16 so that the enus of the stra may 1 i u 5 are attached to an object. be bent around and pass thorugh the notches m0 to hold the plates. The ends of the strap 13 may be flanged and held by a bolt 17 as shown. The strap 3 may also be made as shown in Figure 4 with the ends bent around a post and flanged so that they may be held by a bolt 18. In the design shown in Figure 4 the ends of the straps may extend outward as indicated by the numeral 19 so that they may readily be attached to a corner of a building.
It will be understood that changes may be made in the construction without departing from the spirit of the invention. One of the changes may be in the design of the plate or the arrangement of the wording thereon. Anther may be in the omission of the word Block with its corresponding numerals and still another may be in the use of other means for supporting the plates.
The construction will be readily understood from the foregoing description. To use the sign it may be attached to a post- With the plates extending outward as shown in Figure 2 or attached to the corner of a building or any other suitable object and it will be observed that the wording on the plates can be very easily seen so that one may instantly determine the names of both the streets at an intersection and the number of blocks from the end of the street.
Having thus fully described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a street marking sign, two plates positioned at right angles to each other, straps extending continuously through the central portions of the plates, and means for at taching the plates to an object through the straps, both of the said plates having the names of the intersecting streets on both sides thereof with the name of the cross street in the upper position and provided with arrows pointing in both directions, the name of the street facing the sign in the lower position and with an arrow pointing downward, and in combination with the names of both the streets the number of blocks in the street, and also the number ofhloeks from one end of the street.
