Description
f NITED STATEs PATENT OFFICE..
`GUSTUS S. FRANCE, OFl COBLESKILL, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO WASHBURN AND MOEN MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF WORCESTER, MASS.
IMPROVEMENT IN BALE-TIES.
Specilication forming part of Letters Patent No. 176,614, dated April 25, 1876; application filed April 10, 17576.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUsTUs S. FRANCE, of' Cobleskill, in the county ot Schoharie, in the State ot' New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bale-Ties; and l do herebyY declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the saine, reference being had to the accom panying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which- Figure l represents a perspective view of the interlocking ends of a bale-tie embracing my invention, which forms thesubject-matter t'or which these Letters Patent are prayed. Fig. 2 represents a perspective view ot' the saine parts shown in Fig. 1, with the loops drawn a little straighter; and Fig. 3 represents a side view of the same parts a's they appear when clasped about the bale, and the expanding pressure and strain of the'snbstance baled are allowed to act upon the locking parts.
To enable those skilled in the art to which my invention belongs to make and use the same, I will proceed to describe it more in detail.
I n the drawings, A represents a section of',
are then opened to' form the loops D, after which they are brought together again, as
y shown atf, and twisted together, as shown at E, thereby securely fastening the ends a and b ot' the wire to the main parts A and B thereot', as indicated in the drawings,
The loops D may be so made as to require a slight springing apart to permit ot' the ends C of the hooks C passing through said loops, in which case there will be less liability of the hooks becoming detached from their respective loops during the operation ot' baling. p
The mode ot' connecting the locking parts of the bale-tie, as shown in the drawings, is as follows: The hooked ends of the bale-tie are slipped past each other, and the hooks C are passed through their respective loops D, so as to interlock with each other, thereby producing a secure and strong attachment between the ends ot' the bale-tie, as indicated in Fig. 3 of the drawing'.
Having described my present improvement in bale-ties, what l claim therein as new and of my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-` 1. The combination, with the ends of a baletie, of hooks C, and loops D, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. A bale-tie as an improved article of manufacture, having interlocking ends C D, constructed substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
GUSTUS S. FRANCE.
Witnesses: THos. H. DODGE, EDWARD E. MOORE.
