IMPROVEMENT IN SCISSORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 176,5 [9, dated April 25, 1876; application filed February 1, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J AKOB DOES, of Elizabeth, in the State of New Jersey, have in-' vented a new and useful Improvement in Scissors, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists in the arrangement 7 of an annular recess'concentric with and out- Fig. I.
A and B are the scissors-blades. The blade A is provided with two rings, m, and the upper blade, B, with one ring, I), which latter rests, in closed position of the scissors, in the recess formed by the double ring m of the lower blade-shank. The blades turn on the pivot-pin s, in the usual manner. Around the hub for the pivot s an annular recess is made on the inside of the blades, into which a spring, I), is placed, one end, 0, of which is attached to the blade A, and its other end, d, to the blade B. (See Fig. III.) By this arrangement, by the action of this spring D, the blades will be kept open when the same are not fastened together, and the action of the thumb in the ring 1) produces the cutting operation as with ordinary scissors. To the shank n of the blade A a pivoted latch or lever, 10, is attached, provided with a projecting nose, '0, which fits into a recess, '12, provided in the shank a of blade B, for the purpose of closing or lockin g thereby the blades when not in use.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The arrangement of an annular recess at the inner sides of scissors blades, concentric with their joint-pin s, and outside and surrounding the hub of said joint-pin, in combination with a coiled spring, D, situated in said recess, having one end attached to the scissorblade A and the other end attached to the blade B, to force them apart, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
