In order to explain the advantages of the present invention relative to the lowering of the point of intersections of the neutral axes of the tension and compression members V16 and 17, reference is made to Figures 11V, 12 and 13, which show cross sec-V provided with the outturned flanges 23.

The junction of the tension member 16 to the journal box 19 is reinforced by the web 26 and by the laterally extending *strengthening ribs of webs 26a. A side frame having a compressionV member, a tension member, a journal box integral with said tension and compression members, said tension member comprising a channel section having its web lowermost, said journal box and tension member being provided with a reinforcing web therebetween, the lower portionraof said web being provided with a rib of greater Width at its mid portion than at its end portions.
3. A side frame comprising a compression member, a tension member and a journal box integraltherewith, said journal box and tension member being provided with a reinforcing web therebetween, the lower portion of said webbeing provided with a rib of greater width at its mid portion than at its end portions. l
