IMPROVEMENT IN PLANlNG-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 176,479, dated April 25, 1876; application filed March 20, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GHEsTEE R. PATTER- SON, of Pittston, of the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Planing-Machines, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had .to the accompanying drawings.
The object of my invention is to hold the the lumber fast and steady while being acted upon by the knives, and is an improvement on my invention patented May 25, 1875, No. 163,802.
. Figure 1 is a perspective view, and Fig.2 is a longitudinal vertical section.
A represents the frame; B, the rotary head, with cutters G O. E represents the guide, running across the machine, and fastened to the frame or projecting from it, and is arranged to receive the anti-friction rollers m m. F is the pressure block or foot, and is so arranged as to work against the anti-friction rollers mm, which are protected from the dust by being located behind the guide E. G is a series of hollow caps or covers for the springs H, and which are constructed so as to be adj ustable by means of the screw-threads a, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing. The pressure-foot F, in combination with the guide E, anti-friction rolls m m, and caps Gr, provided with springs H, all constructed and arranged as described, and for the purpose set forth.
