3. The method of preparing a subaqueous foundation or the like, which consists in placing a steel shell around the site of the proposed foundation with the top of said shell above the water line, then filling the shell to substantially the top with granular material, then lowering a caisson through the granular material inside the shell and into the solid ground below the same by alternately dredging and building up the caisson walls so that the entire caisson may be constructed above water in the dry, then removing the granular, material fromthe outside of the caissonand the shell above the natural ground.
4. The method of preparing a subaqueous foundation or the like,- which consists in placing a steel shell'around the site of the proposed foundation with the top of said shell above the water line and its baseresting on the ground,'then filling the shellto substantially the top with granular material, then lowering a caisson through the granular material inside the shell and into the solid ground below the same by alternately dredging and building up the caisson walls so that t e entire caisson may be constructed above waterirf the dry. 5. 6. The method of preparing a subaqueous foundation' or the like, which;consists in placing a steel shell around the site of the proposed foundation with the to of said shell above the water line, then fill shell to-substantially the top with ing the I granular material, then casting in sections ing a caisson throughthe granular material inside the shell and into the solid ground below the same by alternately dredging and building up the caisson walls so that the entire-caisson may be constructed above water in the dry.- I
7. The method of preparing to construct a subaqueous foundation, which consists in placing a shell around the site of the proposed foundation, then filling the shell with granular material to form an island, and constructing a caisson upon the island thus formed within the shell and sinking the caisson through the ranular material to the bed upon which the oundation is to rest.
8. The method of preparing to construct a subaqueous foundation, which consists in placing a shell around the site of the proposed f foundation, then filling the shell with granular material to form a temporary island, then constructing a caisson upon said island and removing the greater part of said granular material.
