purpose being to raise the nap thereof.
Heretofore it has beennecessary and customary to hold the fabric whilebeing brushed with the fingers. This frequently resulted in burns to the operator and necessarily resulted in certain portions or spots of the nap being left depressed where the fingers contacted with the fabric.
Itis the purpose of my invention to provide a device for holding the fabric in such a manner that there are nounfinished spots or portions and in such a manner that the 2e operator is not burned duringthe brushing operation. It is also within the contemplation of my invention to provide a holder which will conform to the shape of the steam table whereby the fabric may be held in such 23 a manner as to avoid stretching and wrinkling of the fabric while being brushed. Accordingly, I provide a device which has a head portionfrom which a plurality of slender projections extend and a hand grip as portion extending a substantial distance from the head portion. By means of this device, an operator may securely hold the fabric while being pressed without injury to himself or the fabric, and yet permit brushing of the entire section of fabric.
Other advantages will be apparent from the following description given in connection with the drawings which illustrate one embodiment of my invention, and in which, Fig. 1 is a perspective of a holder illustrated in position over a steaming table indicated in dotted line, i v
Fig. 2 is a section through approximately the center of the holder, and
Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectionaldet-ai-l showing the head construction.
In the illustrated embodiment of my invention I have shown a holding device for use with a convexly curved steam table, it being understood that the steam table may be fiat or of any desired configuration. In the illustrated embodiment the device is shown as being constructed of sheet metal; having a cylindrical finger grip or handle portion 1 terminating in an angularly disposed transverse head portion 2',the latter portion being extended laterally from each side of where the handle joins the head portion. The 3 lower endof the head portion is. flanged as at 3 to provide a base to which the projec- Q0 1 tions may be secured. In the illustrated form the projections for gripping the fabric comprise a series of forwardly bent slender wire bristles 4 seated in a block 6 of rubber or other suitablematerial. ,The block 6 and 05 bristles 4 are secured to the flange 3 by means of a U-shaped clamp 7 extending along the rear edge thereof and a front clamping strip 8 flanged at 9 to engage the front edge of block 6 and having a series of hooks l1 projecting upwardly and through apertures in the head portion, the hooks 11 being bent over upon the inner side of head 2.
As previously stated the illustrated form of my holder is adapted to be used with a conveXed steam table. For this purpose the flange 3 is concaved longitudinally in order to fit upon the curved surface of the steam table. It is obvious thatshould a flat table be used, a flat holder would likewise be used. 7
It follows from the above description I have provided a holder which will enablean operator to securely hold a piece of fabric upon a steam table. The handle portionl extending substantially away from the-head portion 2 will maintain the operatorshand out of contact with the steam and the slender wire bristles 4 will penetrate the nap or pile of the fabric and because of this bent form will securely hold the fabric upon the steam I claim:
1. A fabric holding device for holding a piece of fabric upon a steam table compris- 111 a sheet metal member formed into a tubular handle portion terminating in a flanged head portion extending laterally from each side of said handle portion, a block, bristles secured to said'bloc-k, means for securing said block to said flange com- 10 prising a U-shaped clamp engaging one edge of said flange and one edge of said block, and a clamping strip engaging the other edge of said block andhaving hooks engaging said head portion.
15 2. A fabric holding'devic'e for'holding a piece of fabric upon a steam table compris ing a sheet metal member formed into a tubular handle portion terminating in a flanged head portion extending laterally garfrom each side of said handle portion a substantial distance, a block, bristlessecured to said block, and means securing said block to said flange. y
In witness of the foregoing I afiix my sig gmnature. ISSIDORE POLLACK.
