thereby providing apivotal connection for the clamping frame or bail.

The bight portion il of the U-shaped clamping frame or ybail has its intermediate portion so bent as to form rearwardly extending loops 15,7and a forwardly intermediate disposed loop 16. The rearwardly disposed loop projects through the slot l, while the forwardly projecting loop 16 extends a considerable distance from the front side of the base, whereby a finger may be inserted be-V tween the looped portion 16 and the base, to permit the clamping frame to be readily and easily engaged to swing the same forwardly whenever it is necessary to insert or remove a placard from the sign holder. In Figures 4 and 5,.there is shown the specific construction of theintermediate portion of the crown portion of the inverted Ul-shaped clamping frame or bail. n

A pair of axial coil springs- 17 encircle the '5 rod 10 adjacent the respective eye portions Y18 and each axial coil spring is constructed so as to provide a relatively short arm 18, and a relativelyrlong arm 19 at its ends.

The shorter arm of each axial coil spring extends downwardly and hasvits free end bent to form a hook 20 that engages with a notch 21 formed in the lower edge ofthe basel.

The longer arm 19 of each axial coil spring unit extends upwardly along Vthe adjacent side of the inverted U-shaped clamping frame or bailthev extremities 0f these arms being bent to form laterally extending hooks `22 that engager over and around the intervvplacard, or s-ign against the front side of the base l. Furthermore, the sign or placard can be readily and easily removed by swinglng the clamping frame forwardly on the rod Vhile I, have shown the preferred embodiment of my. invention, it is toV be understood that various changes in the size, shape and arrangement ofparts may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is: 1. In a sign holder, a base constructed from a single blank of sheet metal having its lower corner portions slotted vertically toestablish lower corner supporting lugs, said lugs being bent forwardly then downwardly and rearwardly to establish rod supporting sockets, the lower rearwardly extending portions aforesaid being slotted to establish relatively narrow edge tines, a horizontal rod extending between and supported by the sockets aforesaid, said tines having their rear ends bent upwardly to lock the end portions of the rod in place, a U-shaped clamping member having its lower ends journaled on said horizontal rod adjacent to said corner supports, and suitable spring means tending to swing said clamping member upwardly and into contact with the base member, substantially as described.

2. In a sign holder, the combination with a suitable base member, ofa U-s-haped clamping vmember having its lower ends pivotally mounted with respect to the lower corners of said base-member, there being a horizontal slotted opening in the base member in alignment with the upper portion of the U-shaped clamping member,and the upper portion of the'U-shaped clamping member being bent Vrearwardly and then forwardly and then rearwardly and again forwardly to es-tablish a V-shaped finger piece lying in a horizontal plane when the clamping member is in clamping position,'and extending partially .into the horizontal slotted opening of the base member aforesaid when the clamping member is in clamping engagement with the base member, substantially as described.
