Description

June 17, 1930.
c. s. CRICKMER FULCRUM PLATE FOR SPIDERS Filed April '15, 1929 ATTORNEY.
Patented June 17, 1930 UNITED STATES CHARLES S. CRICKMER, OF DALLAS, TEXAS, ASSIGNOR-TO 'THE GUIBERSON CORPORIL' TION, OF DALLAS, TEXAS, A CORPORATION"OFDELAWARE FULCRUM PLATE FORTSPIDERS' V Application filed April 15,
[] types shown in LettersPatent No. 1,642,832
issued September 20, 1927 and No. 1,674,144 issued June 19, 1928, and in my co-pending application filed January 28, 1929, Serial No. 335,722; whereby said spider fulcrums will be supported for the most eflicient and effective functioning.
A particuar object of the invention is to provide a fulcrum plate arranged to be fastened on any flat support and including a guard flange limiting the area on which the fulcrum may slide, thus preventing displacement from its working zone and tending to exclude articles from lodging under and interfering with the rocking of the fulcrums.
A further object of the invention is to provide a pair of opposed fulcrum plates having upstanding guards, whereby the fulcrums of a spider are so confined as to exclude displacement of the spider in a horizontal plane out of its working zone.
Further reference will be made herein to A the foregoing and other features of the invention, which will be more pointed out.
In the following specification an exemplification of the invention is set forth and this is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is a side view showing plates constructed in accordance with the invention and supporting the fulcrums of a spider, parts being in elevation and parts in section,
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same, the spider being shown in dotted lines, and
Fig. 3 is a front elevation of one of the plates. I
In the drawings the numeral 10 designates an elongated plate, preferably but not necessarily flat on its top andv bottom sides. On the top side of the plate is formed'an upstanding guard flange or yoke 11, preferably U-shaped. This guard flange extends particularly :along the rear edge of the plate intermedi- 19 29. Seria1 No.355,-167."
ate the ends thereof and transversely across the plate to thefront edge."
Those portions ofthe plate" lying beyond the transverse members of the flange constitute lugs 12 and are provided with apertures 13 for receiving lag screws 14 or other fastenings by which the plates are secured on their supports. The transverse members of the flange are braced by webs 15 cast integral with the lugs and sustaining the thrust when the fulcrums B of the spider A are shifted laterally against said flange members.
Two of the plateshlO are employed and mounted on opposite sides of the support, whatever it may be. The plates are -arranged with their flanges 11 facing each other, so that longitudinal movement of the spider in' a horizontal plane is limited by the back members of the flanges which extend along the rear or outer edges of the plates. The cross members ofthe flan e limit the lateral or side displacement of the spider in a horizontal plane.
This is an advantageous feature because the spider when open, as is shown in the drawings cannot be shifted out of working relation to the pipe G. Tools and small articles are prevented from catching under the fulcrums B by the guard flanges 11. The plates of course provide smooth bearings for the fulcrums.
Various changes in the size and shape of the different parts, as well as modifications and alterations, may be made within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim, is:
1. The combination with a pair of oppositely arranged sides of a support, of ful-- crum plates disposed one on each of said sides, a pair of arms, and means pivotally connecting said arms at their inner ends, said arms having their opposite ends loosely resting on the respective plates, said plates each having upstanding walls arranged to limit the lateral movement and also the longitudinal travel of said arms.
2. The combination with a pair of op ositely arranged sidesof a support, of 'ul crum plates disposed one on each of said sides, a pair of arms, and means pivotally connecting said arms at their inner-ends, said arms having their opposite ends loosely resting on the respective plates, said plates each having upstanding walls arranged to limit the lateral movement of said arms. I v
3. The combination with a pair of op 0- sitely arranged sides of a support, of lcrum plates disposed one on each of said sides, and a pair of arms each having one.
end loosely resting on the respective plate, said arms each being pivoted at the other end to the other arm, said plates each having an upstanding wall, said Walls being arranged to limit the longitudinal travel of said arms. 7
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
CHARLES S. CRIOKMER.
