This invention relates to new and useful improvementsin a slidable and pivotal window.
The invention has for an object the pro- I-vision4 of a device of theclass mentioned Awhich is of simple durable construction, de-
,pendable in use and efficient in action, and which can be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost. v
The invention proposes a screened frame provided with inner and outer sashes, the inner sash consisting of a central portion hinged atone side to a slide strip and means for latching the other side of the central portion toa second slide strip, the outer sash consisting of .a central portion of several hingedly connected sections .with the outer end of the first section hingedly connected with a slide strip and the outer end of the last section providedwith latching means for connection with a second slide strip, and weather strips for providing a weatherproofustructure..

The slidable and pivotal window consists of ascreened frame 12 provided with an inner sash 13, an outer sash 14, the inner sashI `with latching means for connection with a second slide strip 26, and weather strips for providing a weather-proof structure.
The said .screened frame 12 consists of side-forming members 27 a top-forming member 28 and a bottom-forming member 29. A screen 30 is attached across the outer side of the farme 12. The inner and outer sashes 13 and 14 respectively are separated from each other by parting sash strips 31. An inner sash guide strip 32 is attached upon each of the side-forming members 27 for slidably holding the innersash, and an outer sash guide 33 Yis connected with each of the side-forming members 27 for slidably holding the outer sash. The side-forming mem'- bers 27 are of hollow construction and arranged for housing conventional counterweights 34 connected with the sashes in' customary fashion. f Removal portions 35 are formed in the side-forming members 27 and in the inner sash Vguide strips32 forpermitting excess tothe counterweights 34. Preferably these removable portions should be held in place by screws 36. The said catch 39 consists of any inverted U shaped strip 40 attached upon the top of the slide stripvv .18 and slidably suporting a bolt 4l having a portion extending thru a slot 42 in the strip 40 and connected with a handle 43 for its operation. The bolt 41 may engage in lower aperturel 44 or upperV aperture 45 of a bolt receiving plate 46 which isv attached upon the' side-forming member 27. In Figs. 3 and 7, a catch 5l has been illustrated for latching the inner and outer sashes together while in closed position. Thiscatch 51 consists of a plunger slidably mounted in the inner-section and engageable in an aperture 52 4ink the outer section when in a de pressed position. When pulled outwards the -plungeris disengaged from the aperture and motion of the sashes is possible.

Referring particularly -tol Fig. 3, doti and da sh lines 56 indicate the outer sash in folded position and at an inclination immediately Vbefore resting against the side-forming member 27. This is one of the positions which this sash may assume. If desired, the hinge section`48 may be moved to a'position upon the section 20 so that the folded window may 'engagewithin the frame l2 and besubstan- -tiallyin the same plane thereof. Thisi's yaccomplished by a screw 57 rotatively mounted in the section 20 and having its head 58 reachable from one endof the section 20 and tlireadedlyA engaging a lug 59 projecting from the hinge section 48. This lug may move in a recess 60 formed in the sash section 20. Having thus described our-invention, what we claim'as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is v l. A` slidable and pivotal window, coniprising a screened frame provided'with 4inner and outer sashes, the inner/sash consisting of acentral portion'hingedatone side to a slide strip and means for latching the other side of the central portionto a second slide strip,.the outer sash consisting of a central portion of severalY hingedly connected l sec'- tions with the outer end' of the first section liingedly connected with a slide strip and the outer end of the last section provided/with latchiiig means for connection with asecond slide strip, and weather strips for/producing a weather-proof structure, saidmeans for latching the other side of the central'portion of the inner sash to the second slide strip consists of a tapered dovetailed groove-bracket mounted uponthe slide strip and engaged by a vflared catc-h'mounted upon the central por'- 'il .tion and both of these elements being'Y of a slide strip and means for latching the other 31;

A slidable and pivotal Window, comprising a screened frame provided With inner and outer sashes, the inner sash consisting of a central portion hinged at one side to a slide strip and means for latching the other side of the central portion to a second slide strip, the outer sash consisting of a central portion of several hingedly connected sections With the outer end of the first section hingedly connected with a slide strip and the outer end of the last section provided with latching means for connection With a second slide strip, and Weather strips for producing a Weather-proof structure, the hingedly connected sections of the outer sash being arranged to fold close to each other and then assume an inclined position against one side of the said frame, and a means for shift-ing the hinge between certain of said sections so that the sash in folded position may assume a position Within the plane of the said frame, said means consisting of a lug projecting Jfrom the section of the hinge and extending into a recess in one of the sash sections and threadedly engaged by a screw rotatively mounted in the sash section.
