It is desirable to provide the walls of boiler furnaces with a cooling medium and to accomplish this water tubes have been carried into the wall, or in such relation to the Wall'as to cool the wall. In the present invention I have extended the cooling tubes for furnace walls directly from a boiler drum, thus simplifying the construction and increasing its efficiency. Features and details of the invention will appear from the specification and claims.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings as follows Fig. 1 shows a vertical section in a'plane from front to rear of the furnace.

The furnace has a front wall 9, a top wall 10, a rear wall 11 and-side Walls 12. Water tubes 13 extend from the front top drum downwardly to a manifold 14. Similar tubes 15 extend from the rear top drum 2 to the same manifold. The forward end of the manifold 14 is connected with the manifold, or drum 8 by pipes 16 and with the drum 3 by pipes 17. v
The tubes 13 and 15 are preferably arranged directly within the walls as clearly shown in section in Fig. 2 but are at least in such relation to such walls as to cool and protect the same. It will be noted that the tubes 13 and 15 extend from the drums l and 2 in radial directions from the drum and fan out from the drums to give the proper spread in the walls. Thus the fabricating is simplified and there is a direct connection and circula- I tion between the cooling tubes and the boiler drums.
What I claim as new is 1. In a furnace, the combination of a drum; a boiler tube system connected lengthwise of and throu h the intermediate portions of the drumya urnace wall through which the drum extends; cooling tubes extending ing its axis in a plane extending transversely of the axis of the drum.

tubes being bent to distribute the tubes at intervals .in parallel relation with their axes in a plane within the Wall; and a manifold arranged without the wall and connected to the ends of the tube opposite their connection with the drum, said manifold having its axis in a plane extending transversely of the axis of the drum and the manifold being arranged outside the furnace wall.

In a furnace, the combination of two .75 upper drums; a boiler tube system extending lengthwise of and throughoutthe intermediate portions of said drums; a furnace Wall to which the drums extend; cooling tubes extending radially andfan-wise from each of said drums and arranged in a plane at right angles to the axes of the drums and adjacent to the ends ofthe drums, said tubes being bent to distribute the tubes at intervals in parallel relation to their axes in a plane in 5 cooling relation to the wall; and means connecting the ends of the tubes remote from the drums into the boiler system.
4.. In a furnace, the combination of two upper drums; a boiler tube system extending 9o lengthwise and throughout the intermediate portions of said drums; a furnace wall to which the drums extend; cooling tubes extending radially and fan-wise from each of said drums and arranged in a plane at right angles to the axes of the drums and adjacent to the ends of the drums, said tubes being bent to distribute the tubes at intervals in parallel relation to their axes in aplane in cooling relation to the wall; and means connecting the ends of the tubes remote from the drums into the boiler system comprising a manifold having its axis in a Flame extending transversely of the axes o the drums.
