LICENSE AND REGISTRY LOOK Application filed January 12, 1929. Serial No. 332,115.
The object of the device is to prevent the changing of license plates, etc. by thieves or others by fastening the license to the car with a device that cannot be opened after it is once closed.
The device is of such type and construction that important information may be enclosed within it and protected from the elements or stamped on a part of the device which may be enclosed or exposed as desired, but still cannot be removed, without visible signs of tampering.
The inventor wishes to offer a means of protect-ion for the public, from automobile thieves; to be put on when the license is purchased and not removed until a new license is attached at which time a new device would have to be attached because the device cannot be removed without mutilation of some type which would be plainly visible to the owner, police and all others.
lVith these facts in mind, the following detailed description of the parts of the de-- vice, some of which are detailed on the accompanying drawing, will show the differences and advantages of this new and improved device as follows In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 represents a sectional view of the assembly of the inner and outer cylinders, the inner cylinder having one end closed.
Figure 2 is an end view, of the outer cylinder.
Figure 3 is the plan view of the lock end assembly.
Figure 4 is the elevation of the lock end assembly.
Figure 5 is a sectional view of the lock end at the spring catch.
Figure 6 is a perspective of the fully assembled device.
In Figure 1, the outer cylinder 1 is the main body and covering for the device. The thread 9 on the lock end of the cylinder is to receive the lock end or closure 3, Figure 3 and Figure 4. In Figure 4 the lock end 3 has a square hole 17 which is also shown in the lock end section in Fig. 5 with the pin 6 and spring 7 inserted in the hole 17 When the lock end 3 in Fig. 4 is screwed into the outer or article 8 to be fastened.
cylinder 1 of Fig. 1, the pin 6 is so arranged in connection with the cut 10 shown in Figures 1 and 2, that the lock end may be screwed into the cylinder '1, but it cannot be unscrewed.
In Figure 4 is a U-bolt 4, threaded at both ends having nuts 5 as shown. This U-bolt 4 passes through or around the equipment or part of the vehicle to which it will be attached, the equipmentor part being located between the web of the U-bolt 4 and the license The U-bolt then passes through the holes 16 in the lock end 3 and nuts 5 are then advanced on threads 18 into contact with member 3. After this the threaded lock end 3 is inserted into the outer cylinder 1 of Figure 1, as heretofore stated.
In Figure 1, the interior cylinder 2; which is the cylinder upon which the data are registered by stamping or punching, is movable inwardly and outwardly, the travel being governed by the shoulders 13 and 14 as shown which are solid portions of the cylinders 1 and 2.
These shoulders 13 and 14 allow the inner cylinder 2 whichis smaller to be pulled out very nearly its full length as well as be enclosed the greater part of its length.
When it is desired to hold the cylinder 2 within the cylinder 1 to keep the cylinder 2 from being uncovered or loose, it may be done by engaging the threads 11 and 12 of cylinders 1 and 2 and revolving cylinder 2 in a clockwise direction with the aid of the end 15 of the cylinder 2. The inner cylinder may be drawn out after reversing this procedure.
lVhat I claim is 1. A device for locking an element to a support, said device comprising the combination of a closure member, a yoke having one end passing through the closure member, locking means securing said end to the closure member, a tubular member, having a closure at one end, and a means to secure the first mentioned closure member to the other end of the tubular member; the last mentioned means comprising interengaging threads on said end and the first mentioned closure member and means limiting relative movement between said closure and tubular members tending to separate them; the yoke projecting from the closure member and having its other end engaging one of said members to define a space for receiving said support and the element to be locked thereto, the tubular member and its closures being arranged to render inaccessible said locking 11163115.
2. A structure such as defined in claim 1, in which the other end of the yoke passes through the first mentioned closure into the bore of the tubular member and is provided with means locking said end in said bore.
8. A structure such as defined in claim 1, in which the second mentioned closure comprises an indicia bearing tubular member, having a closed end and telescopically passing through said one end of the first mentioned tubular member into the interior thereof.
