Description

June 10, 1930. c. E. KOETH 1,762,473
I DISPLAY DEVEICE FOR JEWELRY Filed April 24, 1926 I 15 I INVENTOR UIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII h] 4 ATTORNEYS Patented June 10, 1930 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CHARLES E. KOETH, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO HICKOK MANUFAC- TUBING COMPANY, INC., OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK I DISPLAY DEVICE FOR JEWELRY Application filed April 24,
The present invention relates to display de vices for jewelry of the type having an element such as a belt slide with a chain attached thereto. An object of this invention is toprovide a construction which will display the article and at the same time hold the chain in a stretched condition. Another object 01 the invention is to provide an improved display device for holding a belt slide with an attached chain against accidental displacement therefrom.
To these and other ends, the invention consists of certain parts and combinations of parts, all of which will behereinafter described: the novel features being pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings Fig. 1 is a plan view of a display device with .a belt slide and an attached chain fitted in position thereon;
Fig. 2 is a plan view showing the upper layer of the projection removed; 1
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the lower layer of the projection;
Fig. t is a perspective view of the intermediate layer of the projection;
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the top layer of the projection;
Fig. 6 is a section on the line 66, Fig. 1 wth the articles removed;
F1 1 7 is a sectlon on the line 7--7 F1 1 23 7 I:
with the articles removed; and j 8 is a perspective view of the coil spring and its two arms.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 indi ates a base member from which rises the projection on which the belt slide 2 is secured and about which the attached chain 3 passes.
The projection, in this instance, embodies the lower layer l substantially of rectangular formation with rounded corners 5 and with a rounded projection 6 at one side. On this lower layer is arranged an intermediate layer I 7, which in this instance has a central opening 8 from which a narrow slot 9 leads tangentially. Also leading from the central opening 8 is a flaring opening 10. This intermediate layer has otherwise the outline of the lower layer 4 and is coextensive therewith. Supported on 1926. Serial No. 104,303.
the intermediate layer is the upper or top layer 12. This upper or top layer overlies the intermediate layer and projects beyond the edge of the intermediate layer to provide about said intermediate layer and lower layer, a marginal groove 13. This upper layer also has. at one side an extension 1 1- which has a notch at 15 in its upper edge and a straight lower edge 16, this lip extension being arranged above the rounded projection 17 which overlies the rounded projection 6 on the lower layer and the rounded projection 6" on the intermediate layer. This extension 14: serves as a support for the belt slide 2, the belt slide slipping over the extension and having its upper edge received in the notch 15. The extension formed by the projections 6, 6 and 17 on the three layers extends under the extension 14 in spaced relation to the latter so that the lower edge of the belt slide may pass above said extensions 6, 6 and 17 The chain 3 which extends from the cent-er of the belt slide cooperates with this extension 6, (5 and 17', passes about the same and about the main projection in the groove 13 formed below the upper layer 12.
This chain 3 has at its free end a snap hook or fastening device 18 which is adapted to engage with an anchoring device 19, in this instance in the form of a resiliently supported hook. This resiliently supported hook, in this instance, is carried by an arm 20 lying in the flaring recess 10 and extending from a coil spring 21 lying in the central opening 8, this coil spring also having an arm 22 which is received in the slot 9.
It is apparent that, when the fastening device 18*is engaged with the hook 19, the
chain 3 is held under resilient tension about i hook 19 in a direct-ion to compress the spring 20 so that tension on the chain or flexible connection 3 W111 be reheved, thus pernntting the fastening device 18 to be'detached from the hook 19 so that the chain may be unwound from the main projection and the belt slide freed to be removed from the extension 14. It is apparent that the invention is not limited to the specific details herein illustrated and that the invention is of a breadth commensurate with the appended claims.
WVhat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A display device comprising a base member having a projection embodying a layer formed with a lateral extension in the plane of the layer overhanging the base member in spaced relation thereto and over which an article of jewelry may be fitted, and an anchoring device on the projection below said layer for anchoring a flexible connection. on the article of jewelry after such flexible connection has been passed about the main projection.
2. A display device comprising a base member, a projection formed with a groove about the same and having an extension at one side overhanging the base member in spaced relation thereto and over which an article of jewelry may be fitted, and an anchoring device for engagement by a flexible connection which extends from the article of jewelry in the groove about the projection.
3. A display device comprising a base member, a projection on said base member having a layer spaced from the base member and provided with a lateral extension in the plane of the layer on which an article of jewelry may be fitted, and a spring arm mounted in said projection below the layer and extending from the projection to be engaged by a flexible connection extending from the article of jewelry about the projection to hold the flexible connection under tension.
4E. A display device comprising a base member, a projection embodying a layer formed with an opening having a flared portion extending from the opening and another layer above the first mentioned layer formed with a lateral extension on which an article of jewelry may be fitted, a spring mounted in the opening of the first mentioned layer and having an arm extending through the flared portion and provided with an anchor-- ing device to which-a flexible connection extending to an article of jewelry may be secured. I
5. In a display device, the combination with a base member of a projection extending from said base member and having a groove about the same, means for securing an article of jewelry at one side of the projection, and
Jan anchoring means fora flexible connection extending from the article of jewelry through the groove about the projection to said anchoring means, said anchoring means being movable on the projection in a plane trans- ..Iversely of the height of the projection.
6. A display device comprising a base member, a projection on said base member, an extension at one side of said projection overhanging the base member in spaced relation thereto to which an article of jewelry may be fitted, and a. resiliently mounted anchoring device for securing a flexible connection extending from said article of jewelry to said anchoring device about the projection.
7. In a display device, the combination with a base member, of a projection having a top layer projecting beyond the main portion of said projection to form a groove about the main projection, said top layer having an extension in the'plane thereof overhanging the base member in spaced relation thereto with which an article of jewelry may be engaged, and an anchoring means for securing a flexible connection extending from said article of jewelry about the projection beneath said top layer.
8. A display device comprising a base member, a. projection, means for securing an article of jewelry at one side of the projection, and a resiliently supported hook on the projection yieldable in a plane transversely of the height of the projection with which a flexible connection extending from the article of jewelry about the projection may be engaged to be held under tension by the resiliently supported hook.
9. A display device comprising a base member, a projection having a lateral extension overhanging the base in spaced relationthereto over which an article of jewelry may be fitted and a resiliently supported hook on the projection yieldable in a plane transversely of the height of the projection to which a flexible connection extending from the article ot'jewelry about the projection may be connected to be held under tension by the resiliently supported hook.
10. A display device comprising a base member, a projection extending from said base member, a spring arm mounted to move on said projection in a plane transversely of the height of the project-ion, and means for securing an article of jewelry to one side of the projection in a position so that a flexible connection on said article of jewelry may pass about said projectionand be secured to said spring arm to be held under tension by said spring arm.
