To vary the volume flow of the air through the, louver orfor completely closing the same, there is provided. a damper plate 26 having vertically extended openings 27 and intervening bars 28 having medial longitudinally extended reinforcing ribs 29. The bafiie plate 21 and damper plate 26 are, as shown, alike This damper plate 26 is slidably mounted in the frame 12 between pairs of guide lugs 30 formed and arranged in the same manner as the guide lugs 25.. In opening the damper 26 the same moves through the opening 13 and into the space formed between the two channel frames 11 and 12, see Fig. 1.
To operate the damper 26 the same is provided with a fin er piece which, as shown, is in the form or a knob equipped stem 31 rigidly secured to said damper plate and extending out-ward through a short horizontal slot 32 in oneof the bars 18 of the face plate 15 and the connected flanges 19. r
As one way of attaching the finger piece 31 to the damper plate 26 after the face plate 15 is in position, there is applied to said damper plate a fixed nut 33 with which the finger piece 31 has screw-threaded engagement. The opening 27 in the damper plate 26 are of substantially the same width as the contracted inner portions of the air passages 20 in the face plate 15 and when the damper plate 26 is open, they register. with said air passages. Obviously the damper plate 15 may be adjusted by a sliding movement to completely close the air passages 20 in the damper plate 26 or partially close the same to any desired volume fiow of air therethrough. v
The assembling of the different parts of the louver which is a self contained structure is an extremely simpleand easy matter as it is only necessary to attach the face plate 14 V to the frame 12 by spot welding and then insert the bafiie plate 21 and damper plate 26 through the opening 13 and slide the same into the frame 12 and between the respective pairs of guide lugs 25 and 30; The frame 12 is then placed in the opening 10 in the door 9 and the face plate 15 secured to said frame by the screws 16. The finger piece 31 is then inserted through the slot 32 and screwed into the nut 33. The overlapping engagement with the marginal edge portions of the face plates lt and 15with the side plates of the door 9 securely hold the louver in the door without additional fastening means and at the same time, covers the joints between the louver and the door thus giving the entirestructure a neat and finished appearance. Preferably both sides of the bafiie plate 21 are finished in the same manner as the balance of the louver so that when viewing the same through the air pas-- sages 20' from either side of the door, the same has a finished appearance. The vertically eXt-endedair passages 20 and the termination of the slots 17 flush with the lower channel member of the frame 12- makes it an extremely easy matter to keep the louver clean and free from dust and dirt.
