Figure 10 is a fragmentary horizontal section disclosing the oint between the side wall slabs and the back wall slabs when the side wall slabs are arranged in directly outward- 1y projecting parallel position. v i
Now having particular reference to the drawings, my novelfireplace consists of a flooring or base 5.com-posed of slabs or tiles of any suitable material, such as fire clay or the like. The base 5 is so formed as to provide at the rear edge of the floor and intermediate the ends thereof an ashopening 6. The fireplace further consists of side wall slabs 77 of predetermined height and equivalent to the length of the taperededges 88 of said side wall slabs.
I V The lower edge of the upperback wall slab llis bevelled at opposite'sides of its-"center line to provide inclined faces l1'11 at the lower edge thereof, and to enable the loweredge of the upper section to be secured flush by a mortar oint to the lower section, regardless of which faces of the back wall sections are exposed to the interior of thefireplace, see Figures 3 and 7. i i' c The end edges of a. back wan tiles slabs '10 and ll are bevelledas' at l0 and'lPfor a purpose presently to be'described.
When itisdesired to construct arelatiVely wide fireplace, the rear wall sections 10 and 11 are arranged as illustrated in Figures 2, 8,4 and 5, that is, the bevellededges are exposed to the back of the'fireplace, and the side wall slabs 77 are arranged in outwardly. converging manner, as more clearly disas is usually desir redfh-l Lt*preite1"redlto.1lreire;. the side wall slabs indirectly outwardly prog ject'ing pztmllelposition, and at the same'timeto prox' ide it relatively wide fireple'ce it is only necessary to armingethe' inner edges of the side wall slgtbs direetlly against" the inner faces of the ha ok wall-islehs et} the. extreme i l W ll: l bs as il es mt m 1 s -re a areseeemd' e he-b s ttl lahs ee sui eblemor en-jei t s. llus a ed- 19ers Pmtent, is:
