other suitable means to move with it or independently of it on to which the clinker falls when the grate is withdrawn and from thence to an undergrate or bench when the grate 1s returned to its working position, the clinker remaining on the undergrate or bench until 1t is removed therefrom manually or. by mechanical or other means so that itsl heat may be utilized for igniting the fresh charge of ence to the accompanying drawings2 Y c Fig. l. Vertical section through the furnace showing the grate in the normal working position.
Fig. 2. Vertical section through the furnace showing the grate partly removed from the furnace and the clinker therefrom being discharged on to the moving shelf or table.
The sliding grate A forming the grate proper of the furnace is mounted in the furnace so that it can be withdrawn therefrom, the grate being moved by an hydraulic ram B as shown in the drawings or it may be moved manually, by mechanical means or in any other suitable and convenient maner. A fixed horizontal or slightly inclined or other suitable form of dead plate Gisarranged at the side of the-furnace. opposite to that through which the grate A slides out of the furnace to make a joint with the `grate when the latter is in its normal working'position and a vertical or steeply inclined or other suitable form of plate Dis arranged at the side of the furnace through which the grate slides out of thefurnace to make a joint with the `grate when the latter is in its normal working position and to ensure that the clinker is scraped olf the grate A when'the 53 latter is moved away from the furnace.
refuse and preheating the air for combustion. VThe invention will be described with refer-A AA shelf ortable E is arranged below the 1 sliding grate A,the inner end of the grate ik being connected-by thepbars tA to one endV of the'shelf or table E or iscaused by other A suitable meansto move withuit so` that as the gratefAis moved Qutof tlefurnace the shelf or table is pulled in under the furnace to receive the clinker as itis scraped off thev grate by the vertical or steeplyincl-ined or otherk form of back plate D.
The shelf or table E slides over an undergrate or bench F on to which the clinkerlis deposited by the sliding shelf or table E when the grate proper is returned to its normal working position-and the shelf or table E moves from under the furnace. A depending plate G or other device affixed to the wall of thefurnace may be employed to scrape the clinker off the shelf or table E. v
The front end c .of the shelf or table f is preferably formed to act as a pusher so that on the neXt movementof the grate proper to dischargethe clinker, the drawing in of the shelf or table will push the previously deposited clinker ofl" the under-grate. or bench F into a chuteH or any suitable' receptacle vby which it maybe removed from the furnace.
This arrangement of sliding shelf or table and under'grate or bench allows the 'clinker discharged from' the grate to lie under they latter for any desired length of time .so that its heat maybe utilized for igniting the fresh charge of refuse `and to preheat the air for combustion.
