BATHTUB I applicati@ mea september ai, icas. serial up. mais. j
This invention relates to a bath tub providedl with means tol render it particularly adaptable for the bathing of infants.
One of the objects of this invention is to provide'a bath tub having a body rest or support of suiiicient structural strength and vstability to render it safe and convenient to use.
Another object is to provide a simple and -ini expensive construction for a device of this kind,-on`e that will be easyto o erate and capable of ready assembly. A urther ob ]ect of my invention. is to provide a .bath tub with a body supporting device havinfr. a
smooth, soft and ci'omfortable resting sur ace for the body of the infant, and one that is free from vany protrudin might do harm'to the chil Other objects and advantagesy will appear from the description hereinafter given.
Referring to the drawings; i Fig. 1 is a perspective view'of the body rest forming a part of myinvention, fragments of the upper covering being removed to show the interior construction. v
tion, showing the body rest-in its operative Y position .with res ect to the bath tub, the position of the chil being shown in dotted lines.
. Figf is a bottom viewof the body rest, with part of the lower'covering removed.
l Fig. 4 is a fragmentary side sectional ele'- vation of the body rest along line 4 4 of Fig.
3, showing the locking member in its operativeand inoperative positions.
In the drawings the tub 1 contains the body rest 2 whichismounted onxthe bottom or s 'oor 3 'of the tub. The said body rest 'con-v tains a frame 4 to which the-su port 5 is ivotally attached at 6. The-lloc ing mem er 7 is pivotally mounted at 8 and contains the notch 9 adapted to engage the pin 10, and .thereby hold support 5 against movement.
' Surmounting the frame 4 and secured thereto isa covering of canvas or other ex' iblemate'rial comprising the layers`f'11 and 12. These layers may either bein one continuous length folded over the frame and secured by snap fasteners '13 as shown,I or they may be in two separate sheets. Sheet 12, the
5 lower of the two sheets, contains an opening elements that Fig. 2 is a sectionalv elevation of my inven- 'rest comprising a'double layerno 14, to permit befhad tothe'locking j member 7 In its closed position, .the base 15 ofthe support 5 is in abutment with the under side* f 5l i of the body rest.` 10 `bringthis .device into its operative position, the support 5 and the locking member 7 areswung from their re` spective positions as shown in Fig. 4 until the pin wisbrought into engagement with `the notch 9 ofthe said vlocking member. The p 'support 5 is now held against movement and in a fixed position relative to the. frame 4.
:The entire body restv is now set into the tub, the base 15 of the support 7, and the end 16 ofthe frame resting upon the bottom 3 ofthe tub. The assembling of this device is thus obviously a simple matter.
.-The inclined position of the body rest rnmits 'a partial immersion of the chil in Water, the head being held up by the elevated portion. This `renders sponging and bathin a simple matter, and removes the dan er o the -childs head becomingimmersed ue to' vany l'possible carelessness or inattention on L the part of the person bathing the child.-
"The frame 4, which can be .made of a strong structural material, together withthe double against breakage The'fact thatthebed Vres'tris'mount'ed upon the bottom of the-tu insteadof I suspensiom'jgives adegreeof stabili fwith i" consequent convenience and safety to t 'euser f -not possible in bodyY rests of -the -or suspension" types.
It will also be noticed mathe' @par mi@ 1 elements or projections that" mi t tend to harm the child, and it'will furt erlbe seen frame forms a soft yieldable bed,' and a com# fortable restin surface.
The scope o this invention is notl to the particular form herein described and shown, as other and different -mechanical forms can be embodied in my invention.
VWhatI claim is: In vcombination with a bathtub a bodly f e layer of -lexible materialsurmoimting the v :fr-ame,- Y gives double assurance 'of safety 11 is smooth' and unobstructed by plum-ud! ng co .I vthat the flexible material stretched across the.;4
material mounted on and secured to a frame containing a pivotal support engageable with locking means adapted to hold said support against movement, the lower o the sai a ers containing an opening to permit access to be had to said locking means, the seid support being adapted to rest upon the bottom o1? said tub and to keep one end of said body rest .in en elevated position.
