Description

W. M. SHINNICK.
ROPE HALTER.
Patented April 4, 1876 INVENTOR WITNESSES ATTORNEYS N.FETF-RS,' PHOTO-UTHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON. D. C.
' UNITED STATES PATENT Qrrrca.
WILLIAM M. SHINNIGK, OF ZANESVILLE, OHIO,
\ IMPROVEMENT IN ROPE HALTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 175,769, dated April 4, 1876; application filed March 25, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
,Be it known that I, WILLIAM M. SHINNICK, of Zanesville, in the county and State otOhio, have invented a new. and
and operation of the same, reference being had to the'annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a perspective view of my .halter. 1 This invention has relation to head-halters for horses; and it consists in .a novel mode of constructing the cheek and nose portions of the halter, whereby such portions can be made as broad as desired, and of a single piece of twine, woven as will be hereinafter explained.
In the annexd drawings, A A designate the cheek portions, B the crown portion, 0 the throat portion, and D the halter-rope, which latter is attached to the two ends of the piece forming the cheek and nose portions, and passed through a-ri'ng, a, fastened at the j unction of these portions.
While I have given difierent names to the portions A A and the portion E, it will be seen that these portions are composed of a single or continuous band. This band is formed of one continuous piece of twine, and consists of Iongitudinal portions, which may be termed the of Muskingum over other halters is that it warp, and crossing portions, termed the Weft or filling. The weft is passed in a zigzag or serpentine manner across the band and between the warp-threads, which threads pass alternately'above and below the weft-thread in the same manner as warpthreads are arranged in a simple piece of Woven fabric. The two ends of the piece of twine of which the band is formed are fastened which may be in any suitable manner to the warp.
One of the advantages of 'my rope halter possesses great strength, and, being com posed of a single piece of twine, it affords loops at its ends for the attachment of the halter-ropeD. Another advantage attendiug my halter-band is that there are but two ends of twine to be fastened, and
consequently only two ends which are at all liable to fray out.
WhatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The cheek, crown, and nose portions of a rope halter formed of a piece of twine woven, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two Witnesses.
WILLIAM M. SHINNIGK.
Witnesses CHAS. O. HARRIs, RUFUS 0. BURTON.
