IMPROVEMENT IN VEQETABLE-CUTTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 175,756, dated April 4, 1876; application filed February 14, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, Farnnnron RENTSGH- LER and JOHN KEGK, of Ann Arbor, in the county of Washtenaw and State of Michigan,
have invented a new and useful Improvement in Vegetable-Gutters, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a top view of our improved cutter. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same, taken through the line mm, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a cross-section of the same, taken through the line 3 y, Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish a simple and convenient instrument, for household use, for cutting vegetables.
The invention consists in an improved vegetable-cutter formed of the plate having inclined transverse slots formed in it, and being bent in opposite directions at the opposite sides of said slots, and the wires having loops formed in them at the ends of the plate, constructed and arranged as hereinafter fully described.
A is a plate of suitable sheet metal, in which are formed inclined transverse slits a. The metal plate upon the opposite sides of the slits a is struck up in opposite directions, and is sharpened to an edge. The side edges of the plate A are strengthened by Wires B, which at the ends of said plate are bent into loops N, in opposite directions, as shown in .Fig. 2, and are then bent inward, and have eyes or loops b formed in them, as shown in Fig. 1. The loops b are designed to support the plate A in a slightly-inclined position, whichever side he upward. ,The loops 1) are designed for convenience in hanging the instrument up. 0 is a square box, without top or bottom, the sides of which project below the ends and are bent into U-form to receive the wired edges of the plate A, which serve as guides to the said box 0 as it is pushed back and forth along the plate A.
In using the device it is laid upon a table, the loops b supporting it in a slightly-inclined position. The vegetables to be out are then placed in the box 0, and the said box is pushed back and forth upon the plate A, slicing the vegetables quickly and evenly.
The cutter may be used with or without the box 0, as may be desired.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The plate A, having oblique slits andcut- .with a Wire frame, B, having reversed loops b b at its opposite ends, as shown and described, Whcreby the vegetable-cutter may be' reversed and yet placed atits proper incline.
FRIEDRICH RENTSOHLERJ v JOHN KEOK.
