To all whom 'it may concern Be it known that I, HERBERT L. PHELrs, of Gloversville, county of Fulton, State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in Ghildrens Crib-Cradles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which- Y Figure l represents a view from above of the improved cradle, applied to the side of a bedstead. My invention relates to a crib-cradle for children, and consists in a crib, supported at one of its sides from a bedstead, wall of a room, or from a stand, by means of an elastic connection or joint, which will be capable of permitting the opposite side to be free and the body of the crib to be vibrated vertically with an easy spring motion; the object of this invention being' to render the crib portable and capable of use at the side of a bed, for occupancy at night, and for use in the daytime detached from the bed, and ina room from the wall of same, or from a suitable stand, and to serve as a cradle capable of having given to it a movement agreeable to a child, so as to serve all the purposes of both cradle and crib, withoutany 'considerable occupancy of the room or cham- 4 Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view of' the same modified. B is an elastic joint-connection, composed in one part of the attaching-piece e to be attached to the bedstead, wall, or other article intended to support the crib, by means of the socket or eye d, or equivalent device, secured to vthe bedstead or other article, as shown, and of a second piece, f, secured in a permanent manner to the crib, either by attachment to one or more slats, as shown, or to the end pieces ofthe crib. The said pieces e and f may be connected by a coiled elastic joint, g, as shown in Figs. 6 and 7, or made continuous with said pieces, or with a hinged joint, g, and an elastic rubber block, g', at the said joint, as shown in Fig. 8, or with both an elastic coiled joint and rubber block, as shown in Fig. 3. The rubber block g', when employed, is to be supported from the bedstead or other equivalent piece, and have a bearing against the crib at a point near thejoint g, whether it Y be an elastic, coiled, or hinged joint. To prevent the crib from throwing upward too suddenly, beyond a desirable point, when a child is being removed, or under other circumstances, I provide a cord or other exible piece, h, attached at one end to the bedstead or other article, and at the other end to the crib, as shown, which cord is intended to operate as a check to prevent any excessive upward motion, and be at the same time capable of permitting the crib being depressed or vibrated.

It is obvious that this improved crib and its adjuncts may be employed with great advantage, both in the day-time and at night, for a sleeping-place for a child, without occupying any considerable space of the room or chamber, as has been the case with cribs or cradles as heretofore constructed, and that it may be readily put in position or situation for operation, and that it may be vibrated in a manner agreeable to a child and without any rocking or swinging motion, which tends 2.
