This invention relates to container holders, and in its present embodiment consistsv ofa device for holding a tooth-paste tube sothat it is normally supported with its mouth;
up, but may be inverted so that the paste may be conveniently applied to a tooth-brush.
My invention is useful for supporting varlous other types of containers such as botties, and I thereforeldo not wish my inven tion to be construedas limited .to -the par-" ticular embodiment which is presented in this application. 1 r i One object of my invention is to provide a container support of the character men-' tioned in which. the-jaws are adjustable so thatvarious sizes'of containers-may be sup-- qport'llv is adapted to slidably and rotatably carry a container holr device 15. This deported. a It is another object of my invention toiprovide a container support in which the jaws are thread-shaped so that thethreaded neck of a container (such as a tooth-paste tube) .may .be readily supported. T
Another object of my invention is to provide a container holder of the character mentioned which includes a device supported ona stem, this device being extendible so that the tube may be inverted into dispensing position.
Another object of the invention-is to provide a containerholder designed for use-in bank so that one of the containers may be extended and invertedwithout being interfered with by the other containers .of the bank. r
It is a further'object of the invention'to provide a container support which has a cover adapted to close the top of the container, this cover being positioned so that it is automatically closed'when the container is moved into a retractedposition under the support means. Other objects and advantages of the invention will be pointed out in the following description. v i r Referring to the accompanying drawing in 5 which the invention is illustrated: a
Fig. 1 is a perspective view;
Fig. 2 is an elevational view;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged view'showing the container in extended and inverted position.
F ig. 4 is an elevational view showing the tube in, extended. position and the manner in whichthelcover is forced into closing position. J f 1 x" Fig. 5 is afront' elevational View of the containerholder; y l 1 Fig. 6 is a plan view of the container holder. Fig. 7 is an enlarged fragmentaryview of one ofthejaws oi' the container holder.
: ig. 81'is a diagrammatic view illustrating the useof theinvention inxbank. l Y Referring to the drawing in detail, the holder. has a support in the form of a horizontal stem 11," the outer end of which has a stop inpthefform of a head12. The support shown is in the form of a screw which is screwed into the wall13, as shown. The supvice has a cylindrical portion 16 which pro Vides a sleeve, this sleeve. surrounding the stem 11. xEx'tending downward from the cylindrical portion'lti is a connecting portion 17. Extending forwardly: and horizontally from the connecting portion 17 are The arms v19are arranged in vertical planes and the iendsthereof are twisted into horizontal planes so. as to providexjaws20 The inner edgesof the jaws 20 are V-sh'aped, as indicateda't21, and are beveled .soas to provide engaging edges 22. As illustrated in ,Fig. 7 the points 23 provided-by the forming .of'the V in the jaws may be twisted so that the jaws will have threadeshaped-cngaging edges The jaws are adjustedby means of an adjustment screw 25 which extends through one of the arms; 1 9;and isthreaded into the other vofthe jaw s -l9,-ther'e being a head 26911 one end thereof whereby the jaws may be moved together or apart." Carried by'thejadjustmentrniembe'r 25. 'is a co'ver27 which is adapted to swing between closed and open positions, :The cover 27 ismade quite hea-Vy'so as to be lweighted andv is 5 provided :with a depression 28intojwhich the mouthlof the Y container may extend. When the invention is usedfor tooth-paste tubes or other contain-f ers holding a chemically active substance, I prefer to make the cover 27 of lead so that 7 there will be no corrosion. If desired, the
the jaws are clamped together. edges 22 are thread-shaped, the jaws will adjustment member 25 may support a book 29 on which a tooth-brush, indicated by dotted lines 30 of Fig. '1, may be supported. In the drawing the container holder is sup- 3 porting a container inthe form ofa tube 33,
which in this illustration of the invention is a tooth-paste tube. 7 ed neck 34 onto which thetooth-p'aste tube cover is screwed. \Vhen the tube33 is placed in the holder of the invention, the tooth paste tube cover is removed and thejaws of the device 15 are spread apart by operating the adjustment screw 25.- The neck .34 of the tube 33 isthen inserted-between thejaws and engage in the threads 36 f0rmed on the mouth 34.
lVhen the device is in retracted position, as
shown in Fig. '2,the tube 33 rests under the support 11 and the cover 27 is in closingposition. To dispense tooth-paste from the tube 33 the device is moved outward on the support 11 sothat it rests in the position shown in Fig.1. The user then takes holdof the tion;
tube :33,'preferably the lower end thereof and swings='this tube and the device/15 into inventedposition as shownin Fig. 3.. Thecov er 27'due to its own weight at this time moves into open position, as sho'wn'. The'user may then place the tooth-brush under the mouth 34 of the tube 33 :and upon a squeezing of the *tubei33 tooth-paste will be. dispensed upon the brush. 'a lvhen thetube 33 is released, it Wlll swing into the POSltiOIISllOWIl in Fig; l,
but the cover 27 will be opened as indicated by. dotted lines 37. The tube 33 in the device'is then moved from extended into retractedpd sition, as shown in Fig. 2. When this is done,
a the cover 27 is engaged bythe head 12 of the support :11,as'indicated in Fig. 4, and is forced into closed position. 1
IiifFigxS the invention is illustrated when used in bank. "A series of container holders are placed side by side andsupp'ort containers 33. When it isdesiredto use one of them it is moved into extended position and in- This tube 33 has a thread- Since-the the end of said support when said holding device is in extended position.
2. A container holder comprising: a supe port; a container holding device slidable on said support from retractedilnto extended position and being invertible; and a pair of jaws pivotally connected with said holding and a pair of adjustable jaws associated with said device and. having thread-shaped ends adapted to grip the neck of said container,
. said jaws being below saidsupport when said .device 1s m" retracted pOSItIOIIaIidBXtBHdIII-g beyond .the end of said supportzwhen said device is:in.extended position. K
4. A container holdercomprising: a sup port; a container holding .device slidable on said support from retra'ctedinto extended'positions and'being invertible; a pair of jaws on said device having thread-shaped ends adapted to grip thethreaded outlet end of said container; and acover for said container hingedly mounted onsaid device and adapt ed to be nioved from open into closed position by said support when said device is said holding 'device'and is moved from open into closed positionfbut being engaged by nuoved from extended into retracted posi- 'tion." H 5. A combination asdefinedin claim 11 in which'a coverfor said container is hinged to said support when said holding device is f .moved'from extended into retracted position.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand at Los Angeles, California, this 16th day of December, 1927.

ve'rted, as indicated at 40. It will be seen that when the container33 is in extendedposition itis moved outward b'eyond the other container-supports and containers so thatit may; be swung into and from inverted position withoutany interference to its opera- -Iclaimasmy inventions I Y ,1.
