This invention relates to door operating mechanism for mixing machines, and concerns itself primarily with a novel arrangement whereby the doors may be manually actuated in one direction and power operated in the opposite direction.` K v The invention comprises a` novel structure and combination of parts hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out andy defined in the appended claims. p

In referring tothe drawings which illustrate an embodiment of this invention, thev reference numeral 1 indicates the mixing receptacle of the machine whichis providedV with a bottom 2. In the present instance the bottom of the mixing receptacle is provided '35' with a pair of discharge openings 3 which are adapted to be closed by discharge doors 4. Adjacent the inner margin of each door opening 3 there is a rod 5 which is journaled in suitable depending lugs or bearings upon the "l0 bottom of the receptacle as shown in Figure tached to the extended end of each rod 5.
Each arm 7 is connected by an adjustable link 8 with a disc 9 which is rotatably mounted upon a driving shaft or power shaft 10 which is journaled in the supporting legs 11 of the receptacle. It might be mentioned that the shaft 10is designed to drive the mechanism for the mixing machine, and to this end it is shown as provided with a gear 10a for operating the same. The aforementioned disc 9 p is provided with'a clutch drum 12 adapted for cooperation with a clutch member 13 splined `or slidably keyed upon the shaft 10. The
clutch member 13 is provided with a groove for receiving a yokelever 14 which is pivoted intermediate its ends to a bracket 15 extend- 17 which is slidably mounted in keepers 18` upon a plate 19 secureolto the receptacle.
The operating rod 17 is provided with an Vadjustable nut 2O below one of the keepers 18 for limiting the upward movement of the lug 16 and thereby limiting the rotation of the disc 9 in a clockwise direction.
.In the operation of the heretoforel described mechanism,let it be assumed that the parts are inthe position shown in Figure 1 and that it is desired to open the discharge doors for discharging the contents of the mixing receptacle. In order to accomplish this,V the operator will slide the plunger 17 downwardly and rotate the disc 9 in an anticlockwise direction 'as viewed in Figure 1, independently ofthe shaft 10. This rotation of the disc `9'wi ll swing the arms 7 downwardly as shownl in dotted lines in Figure 2.
and since the arms 7 are rigidly connected with the rods 5 the latter will be rotated for swinging the discharge doors downwardly into open position as shown in dotted lines in Figure 2. f
Now if it is desired to close vthe doors, the "l" operator will shift the lever 14 to engage the clutch 13 with the drum 12 of the disc 9, thereby clutching the disc 9 to the shaft- 10. As the shaft 10 normally rotates in a clochwise ldirection it will rotate the disc 9 in the same direction and swing the doors to their closed position through the instrumentality of the links 8 and arms Z Gf course, the disc 9 can only be rotated by the shaft 10 'until'it taken from the'operatino shaft of the machine.
I am aware that many changes; may be made and numerous details of 'construction may be variedthrough wide range without departing from the principles of this invention, and I therefore do not purpose limiting the patent granted hereon, otherwise Vthan necessitated by the `prior art.
I claim as my invention: K

In a mixingmaohine havingafbottoni, a pair of doors in said bottom, a rod f r supporting each door for turning movements, an arm on each rod, a driving shaft, a disc having a clutch face rotatably mourn said shaft, a rigid linl-r connecting each arm with said disc, said disc having a lugaii ac- Y tuating member engageable withsaid lug lfor turning saidfdisc to open said doors, aclutch splined upon said shaft, andmeans for en gaging said clutch and vdiscfto lmove said disc in a direction to close said doors.

6. Ina mixing machine comprising a mixing receptacle .having a discharge opening, a door for closing said opening, meansffor supporting said door for turning movements, a driving shaft, a member freely .rotatable thereon, a rigid connectionbet-ween said door and member, means for manually operating' said member independent .of said shaft, andy means for clutching said member to said shaft for operation thereby.
7. In a mixing machine embodying areg ceptacle having a discharge opening, door Vfor closingsaid opening, a driving shaft, a
disc freely rotatable uponsaid shaft, a rigid connection between said disc and door, means for manually'operating said disc, and means for clutching said disc to said shaft for operation thereby.
8. In amixing machine embodying a mixing receptacle having a discharge opening, a door forv closing said opening, a vpower operated device and rigid means connecting said door and `power operated device .foreperating said door, a lever for'releasing said means, and a manually actuatable member for operating said means.
9. In a machine of the characterdescribed, embodying .a Yreceptacle having a discharge opening, a door forclosing saidropening, a power driven shaft, a rigid-connection betweenv said door and shaft, means Vfor manually ractuating said connection independent of 'said shaft for opening said doorand'means for clutching said connection to said shaft foriclosing said door.

In a machine ofthe characterdescrib'ed embodying a receptacle with a dischargel opening, a door for closing said opening, aV power driven shaft, a disc freely revoluble upon said shaft, a rigid connection between said door and disc, means for vclutching said disc tosaid shaft, said disc having a shoulder, and amanually operatedmember for engaging said. shoulder for operating said disc independent ofsaid shaft.

Ina machine of the character describedV embodying a receptacle with a discharge opening, afdoor for closing said opening, `a power 'driven element, a rigid connection .between said door and element, means foreperating said connection independent of said element and means for clutching said connection to said element. f f

In a mixing machine having a pair of discharge openings, a rod trunnioned adjacent each of said openings, a door secured to each of said rods for turning movement, an arm secured to each of said rods, a driving shaft, a disc having a radial lug rotatably mounted upon said shaft, a rigid link connecting said lug to said arm, and clutch means for connecting said disc to said shaft for moving said lug past a dead center position for maintaining said doors in a closed position.
13. In a mixing machine having a pair of discharge openings, a rod trunnioned adjacent each of said openings, a door secured to each of said rods for a turning movement,
an arm secured to each of said rods, a driving shaft, a rotatable disc on said shaft, a rigid link connecting each arm With said disc, clutching means for connecting said shaft to said disc for rotating the disc to a position Where the doors Will be closed and locked, and plunger means engaging said disc for manually rotating the same to a position for releasing the doors.
