Description
April z2, 1930. `T. H. ACASTER 1,755,344
GOLF TEE Filed Oct. 19. 1929 Mns/5555.5. Av1/5N Toe* Patented Apr. 22, 1930 UNITED s'm'rs GOLF TEE Application filed October 19, y1929, Serial No. 409,938, and Great Britain December 10, 1928.
This invention comprises an improved form of golf tee which can be conveniently adj usted in height to suit the users requirments and which will not be readily lost it struck when the ball supported by the tee is played.
Referring to the accompanying sheet of ez;- planatory drawings Figures 1 and 2 are respectively side elevation and plan of a golf tee constructed in accordance with my invention.
The same reference letters in the two views indicate the same parts.
In accordance with my invention, the device comprises a weight or heavy body a which is flat so that it will rest upon the ground. Such weight may be made of lead or other heavy material and may be of any desired shape for convenient carriage and manipulation.
It is formed with a slot g through which projects a thumb-operated sliding member h adapted to bear upon kthe upper side of the ball-supporting member c secured to the weight by riveting or otherwise. As It is moved to the right along the slot g, it lowers the member c to a greater or less extent, as shown by the dotted lines' in Figure l, so varying the height of the ball d to suit the players wishes. The ball-supporting end of the member c is provided with a cup z' oi' leather or other suitable material. A member b projects from the weighted body a along the ground.
By disposing the tee at a from the weighted bodyin a known manner, I ensure that if the tee be struck when the ball is played, the projecting member constituting the ball support will revolve about the weight as a pivot but the latter will not be materially moved. The tee will therefore not be lost.
I may vary the shape of the weight and projecting members to suit any particular requirements.
`What I claim is In a golf tee comprising a weighted body with an upper member projectinglaterally therefrom upon the end of which the golf ball is supported, such member being adjustable in height to suit the users requirements, and a second or lower member projecting lateralshort distance l ly to rest upon the ground, a sliding piece within a slot extending across the weighted body for regulating the height of the outer end of the upper projecting member, as set Jl .JJ ioitn.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
THOMAS HENRY ACASTER.
