From the foregoing description and drawings, it will be seen that I .have endeavored and succeeded in providing a novel contribution to the art of rails, ties, and `fastening constructions. Y Y
It is thought however, that by considering the description in connection with the draw! ings, a clear understanding of the construction, method of use, and advantages of the invention will be had.V Therefore, a more lengthy description is regarded unnecessary.
Minor changes in shape, size, and rearrangement of parts, coming within the field of invention claimed, may be resorted to if desired. c Y
I-Iaving thus described my invention, what I claim as new is v 1. In a structure of the class described, the
combination of a rail tie, an outer abutment clamp rigidly fastened to said tie adapted,
for engaging the outer flange'of the base of a rail supported on the tie, a second retaining clamp secured to the tie adjacent one longitudinal edge of the tie and adapted to engage the inner flange of the base of a rail, and
a third retaining clamp secured toA thetie ad]acent the opposite longitudinal edge of the tie and adapted for engagement with they base flangecof anextension rail for maintaining the tread of the extension rail in abuttingrelation with the first rail. c
2. In a structure of the class described, in combination, a rail tie, an'elongated retaining clamp extending transversely of the rail at one endof the tie, saidclampbeing offset,
along one longitudinal edge thereof and adapted to overlie the outer ange of arail supported on the tie, a second clamp secured to the tie adjacent one longitudinal ledge of the tie, and said second clamp being provided with an offset portion adapted to engage the inner base flange of the tie, and a third retaining clamp secured to the tie adj acent its opposite longitudinal edge, and said last mentioned clamp being offset at one endy and having its offset portion adapted to engage the base flange of an extension rail for maintaining the extension rail in wedged relation to the first rail.
