or LoNDoN, ENGLAND LAMP GLOBE, SHADE, REFLECTOR, OR LIKE SUPPORTING DEVICE Application filed September 9, 1927, Serial No This invention relates to globe, shade, reflector or like supporting devices for electric and other lamps, and has for its object to provide a simple and secure device for this purpose.
Various globe supporting devices have been proposed heretofore having hook-like pivoted fingers for engagement with the rim of the globe or shade, such fingersbeing 6 moved about their fulcra to engage the rim of the globe by means of a ring sliding axially on the lamp. Also it has been proposed heretofore to provide spring fingers of which the ends are forced under the rim of the globe or shade by the partial rotation of a ring provided with cam surfaces.
The present invention comprises a lamp globe shade or like support for a lamp, wherein a number of circumferentially spaced 2o pivoted hooks or supporting devices provided on the lamp supporting casing and movable under a supporting rim provided on the lamp globe, shade or the like, are tilted about their pivots into engagement with and held against each supporting rim by cams provided on'a ring rotatively mounted on the lamp globe, shade or like support.
The lamp supporting casing may be of the kind having an enlarged cylindrical portion for carrying the lamp globe, shade or like supporting hooks or devices, and this enlarged portion may be connected to the main portion of the supporting casing by a transversely arranged annular portion in which are formed slots cut to form pivots for the globe or like supporting hooks or devices. The pivots for the hooks or like supporting devices may be formed by the upper edge of the larger portion of the lamp supporting casing.
A manner of carrying out the invention is illustrated by the accompanying drawing of lamp, globe, or like supporting device, Figure 1 being a sectional elevation and Figure 2 a plan thereof.
In these drawings 2 is the casing of a lamp supporting device of the cylindrical or bell type, 3 is an enlarged portion for carrying the lamp globe, shade or like supporting hooks or devices. These devices in the press 218,566, and in Great Britain October 4, 1926.

Each globe supporting hook 4 is formed with a bent portion 4: from which extends the tail 4 as an offset thereto, and the bent portion d is at each slot 6 hooked over the top edge of the enlarged cylindrical portion 3, so that such edge will form a pivot for the-globe supporting hooks 4. The lower end of each hook 4 is curved to form a bead 4 for supporting a globe 7 by'engaging the underside of its rim 7*, a slot 3 being provided in the cylindrical enlargement 3 to enable the hook 4 to turn about its pivot and the bead 4 to pass under the rim 7 a of the globe 7.
On the outside of the lamp supporting casing 2 is rotatively mounted a ring 8 having a conical portion 8 in the inside of which the hook 4 can move radially outwards to clear the cylindrical enlargement 3. The ring 8 has a transverse portion 8 which rotates over the annular portion 5 of the lamp holder and has also an inwardly-extendingq flange or portion 8 which extends over a beading 3 formed on the lower edge of the cylindrical enlargement 3. The upper portion 8 of the ring 8 is shaped to fit the corresponding portion 2 of the lamp supporting casing 2.,
At circumferential distances apart, corresponding to the distances apart of the hooks 4:, are provided in the ring 8 a corresponding number of cams 9 shaped to engage the hooks l and during the rotation of the ring 8 to tilt the hooks 4: about their pivots and so push the beading 48 through the slots 3* under the rim 7 of the globe 7 To facilitate rotary movements of the ring 8 knobs 10 and 11 ar-eprovided thereon, and to limit such rotary movement a circumferential slot 12 is provided in the portion 8 of the ring 8 and passing freely through such slot is a stop 13 secured at its lower end in the corresponding portion 2 of the lamp holder 2 and provided on its outer end with a knob 13:. By this arrangem nt when. the knob 13 18 pulled towards the knob 10 so that the stop 13 will engage the end of the slot 12, the cam portion 9 of the ring 8 -forces the bead or hook portion 4 of the pivoted hook & through the slot 3 and und r the rim 7 of the globe 7, and holds it there, and when the knob 13 is pulled towards the knob 11 so that the stop 13 will engage the other end of the slot 12 the cam 9 is moved clear of the hook at and so enables the hooks to move treely'about their pivots in a manner necessary to enable the remoyal of the globe 7 from the lamp holder 2.
The tail end 4L of the hooks 4 tend to balance them about their pivots and facilitate their insertion into position on their fulcra inthe lamp holder 2.
The ring 8 is provided with two additional stops 14 each secured in the portion 2 of the lamp holder and extending through a slot 15 in the portion 8 of the ring 8, such slots being of the same length asthe slot 12 so that it will give the same limits of movement of the ring'8 relatlvely to the lamp holder 2 as is given by the stop 13 and slot 12.
Any'suitable spring, spring-catch or friction device may be provided for preventing accidental relative rotation of the ring 8 to the lamp holder '2, andthis device may be arranged in or combined with the cams 9.
In the top of the lamp-supporting casing 2 is provideda hole 2 to facilitate the fixing in position of the lamp and of any suitable suspending or supporting means.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A support for shades or globes having an outwardly extending rim, comprising a shade supporting casing having a cylindrical lower portion connected to the upper portion by an annular transverse portion, a plurality of pivoted shade holding hooks, a rotatable ring having a series of inwardly extending cams corresponding in number to the hooks, the annular transverse portion being provided with a number or slots extending to the upper edge of the cylindrical portion o1 the casing while the cylindrical portion of the casing is provided with a corresponding number of slots, the hooks being pivoted on pivots formed on the upper edge of the cylindrical portion of the-casing by the slots in the annular portion thereof and having shade rim engaging portions extending through the slots in the cylindrical portion and through which they are pushed into engagement with the shade rim by the cams when rotated by the camring.
2. A support for-shades or globes having an outwardly extending rim, comprising a shade supporting casing having a cylindrical lower portion, a plurality of pivoted shade holding books, a rotatable ring having a seriesofinwardly extending cams correspondingin number tothe hooks, the hooks being constructed ot'iflat strip material with curved signature.
