DAMPER-REGULATOR FOR STEAM-BOILERS.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 17,533, dated June 9, 1857.
To all whom 'tt may concern:
Be it known that I, PATRICK WHITE, of the city of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful machine which I call a Steam and Fire Regulator, the use of which is to regulate the. draft of chimneys, lues, or pipes in connection with steam boilers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a longitudinal elevation. Fig. 2 a transverse section all of which is more fully shown by Fig. l of the drawings.
A is the bed plate on base of the machine; B a concave plate on which the flexible pipe C lies; D the clamps to secure the ends of the pipe, E a louver plate on top of pipe for the purpose of compressing or collapsing the liexible pipe to or chamber in connection with F and G lever and weight; H fulcrum; I puppets to which the lever is attached; K a
steam pipe to the flexible tube pipe or chamber; L metal end to pipe; M guides; O bearings to lever and fulcrum all of which make this machine. The clamps are screwed down so as to compress the ends of the fiexible tube between the clamps and metallic plug, the clamps being concave over the edges of the tube and the plugs convex.
The operation and' use of the machine to open and shut the damper in flue or draft of chimneys by the pressure of steam in the Hexible pipe tube or chamber causing a vibrating motion in combination with the lever and weight. l
What I`claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
Securing the ends of the flexible tube by the clamps D D and metallic-plugs K M, substantially as described.
