lilith the foregoing in view, the invention resides in the noval subject matter hereinafter described and claimed, description being accomplised by reference to the accompanying drawing.

In the drawing above briefly described, H denotes a cylinder head, C has reference to a cross head and G denotes the usual cross head guides.
Two projections 8 are formed integrally with and project outwardly from the cylinder head H, and with these projections, certain unique features of construction are associated, for anchoring the guides G. As the construction associated with each of the projections 8 is the same, only one of such constructions will be described.
The projection 8 is provided with a socket 9 formed longitudinally therein and of rectangular cross section, and is providedfwith transversely alined slots` 10 whichopen'f through two of the opposed` walls`11`12` of said socket A third side 13 of the socket 9 isbeveled at its outer end as shown at 1 4 andk diverges outwardly with regard to the fourth socket side 15.
16 denotes an eloingatedy block of rectangular'cross section, of a'size forreception in the lsocket 9, one side of said block being formed with a. longitudinal groove 17 in which one end of the guide G vis snugly received, the guide andv block beinglocked-together, for instance, byproviding the lformer with a dove-tail head 18 at itsy inner end, snugly received in a'similarly shapedv portion 19 of thel groove 17. The side ofthe block opposite the groove 17, isbeveled as at 20 at its'outer portion, for contact with the bevel 14 of the socket side 13, and this same side of'the'block is Vvprovided at its inner end with an abrupt shoulder 21 disposed near the `inner ends of the slots 10.
A transverse wedge 22 passes through the slots 10 and abuts the shoulder 21, and when said wedge is driven tightly into place, itv snugly draws the block 16 into the socket 9, during which movement, the co-acting bevels 141-20 cause said block 16 to force the guide G tightly against the flat socket wall 15. Hence, as long as blocks 16 is held in position, the guide Gr is rigidly anchored to the cylindrical head.
Any desired provision may be made for holding the wedge 22 against accidental loosening. For this purpose, I prefer to make use of a bolt 23 passed through one end of said wedge and through perforated ears 24 formed'integrally with the projection 8.
It will be seen from the foregoing that although theinvention is rather simple and inexpensive, it will be etlicient and reliable, and may be quickly applied or released as occasion may demand. Moreover, it is of such nature that when any wear takes place permitting loosening of the connection between cross head guide and cylindrical head, compensation for such wear may be effected by further inward driving of the wedge 22. This wedge may be formed with a plurality of openings 25, any of which may receive the bolt 23, according to the extent to which it is necessary to drive said wedge.
On account of the excellent results obtainable from the details disclosed, they are preferably followed. However, within the scope of the invention as claimed, variations may be'inade.
I clairnz- An assemblage of the class described cornprising a body having anelongated socket of rectangular cross section, said body being formed also with transversely alined slots opening through two Opposed sides of said socket, a third side of said socket being beveled and disposed in outwardly diverging relation'with the fourth side thereof, a block of rectangular cross-section having a longitudinalA groove in one side, said groove having y a dove-tail shaped inner end, a bar having one end snugly received in said groove, the extremity of said end of the bar being of dove-tail shape for interlocking engagement with the dove-tail shaped inner end of the groove and interlocked with said block, said block and bar end being disposed in said socketwith said bar end 1in contact with said fourthside of said socket, the side of said block opposite said groove being beveled and contacting with said beveled third side of said socket, said beveledside of said block being provided with an outwardly facing shoulder near the inner ends of said slots, and a trans'- verse wedge in saidslots abutting. said shoulder to hold said block snugly in the socket.
