Description
March 25, 1930. R. J. BENNETT COOLER Filed April 22, 1929 INVEN TOR.
Patented Mar. 25, 1930 UNITED siuxrns REGINALD :r. BENNETT, or` sPoKA'NE, WASHINGTON COOLER l Application mea Api-ii 22,
l My invention relates to coolers and more particularly te a cooler that is adapted to be installed in a window frame for the purpose of preserving foods placed therein both in Winter and in summer. Certain objects of the invention are to provide means whereby the device may be adjusted to fit window frames of various Widths. Further objects areV to provide novel ventilator means for the cooler together with other novel features of construction. Y
With the above and other objects in View Vwhich will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of the novel con` struction, adaptation, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed. These objects are accomplished by devices illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein i Figure 1 is a view in perspective showing the cooler installed in a window frame;
Fig. 2 is a view in transverse vertical section of the same;
Fig. 8 is a view in horizontal section taken` substantially on a broken line 3, 8 of Fig. 2; and Y Fig. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary view in horizontal section showing the ventilator means.
Referring to the drawings throughout which like reference numerals designate like parts, the numeral 5 indicates a window sill, the numeral 6 designates the window frame sides, and 7 indicates the window sash, all of which are of the ordinary and well known construction.
The cooler comprises a bottom 8, a rear Wall 9, a top 10, a front wall 11, and end walls 12. Said bottom, rear, top and end walls are preferably made of double metal construction with a filler of ground asbestos, cork or other' insulator. material 13 placed within said hollow walls for the purpose of maintaining an even temperature within the cooler as will be understood.
The top wall 10 slant-s downwardly and out-v wardly for the purpose of draining olf the water from rain or snow. The front wall 11 is also made of double metal construction and is provided with an opening for a door 14 that 1929.` serialv No. 357,051.
is hinged-ait 15 to said wall.V Said door provvidesfmeans for entry in removing or placing articles of food in the cooler and I prefer to make the door wtih a glass panel so that the contents of the cooler are visible.
The hollow end portions of the front wall 11 have extension wings 16 slidably installed therein and the `ends of said wings are providedwith `flanges 17'. Thus, when the device is installed within a window frame, said wings may be extended in accordance with the particular width of the frame 'and their fianges may be secured to the sides 6 of said frame by means of screws or other fastenings 18.
In the installed position ofthe cooler as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, its bottom 8 is dis- Y posed horizontally with its inner end resting on the sill-5. As shown vin Fig. 2, a wedge or bracket may be interposedv between said sill and bottom for the purpose of retaining the device more securely in place. The window sash 7 is lowered to engagement with the top 10 of the cooler thus effecting a complete closure of the window. i
The means for Ventilating the cooler comprises a hole 19 through each end wall 12 thereof and said holes having wire screens 2O for the purpose of excluding flies or other insects. Each of said holes is provided with a disc 21 pivoted'at 22 to said walls and a rod 28 ispivoted at 24 to each o'fsaidrdiscs. Said rods are each provided with a slot 25 and a pin26 passing through said slots provides means whereby said rodsV may be slidably moved back and forth to completely open or close the ventilator holes as shown respectively in dotted or full lines in Fig. 2 of the drawings. Y
Having thus described my invention, it being understood that minor changes may be resorted to in its construction without departing from its scope or spirit, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is The combination with a window frame of a cooler installed therein, said cooler having an outer and an inner spaced wall for its top, botfV tom, front, rear and ends, insulator materialv within said spaced walls, an extension wing for each front end portion of the cooler slidably disposed between the outer and inner front wall and arranged to be extended outwardly therefrom, flanged end portions for said wings adapted to be secured to the sides ofthe window frame, the lower front edge of the cooler resting on the lwindow sill and the' top front edge engaged by the window sash whereby the window opening is Completely olosefL a screen opening for either 'end wall of the cooler, a door pivote-Hy mounted-@teach opening, a rod pivoted toreach door having a slot therein, and a pinior said slot whereby the doors may be pivotally moved to open or Close `said screened openings by slidable movement of the rods.
In testimony whereofl affix my Signature.
REGINALD J. BENNETT.
