Another object of the invention exists in the adaptation of the surface gripping propelling means as a brake mechanism during the moment of using the sled for coasting or'gliding purposes since it is apparent that said propelling shoe may be so actuated by the hand lever and foot pedals as to permit same to engage the riding surface and held in'contact therewithtoform a" positive braking means for use at moments of danger or possible injury to the rider of the device.
In the following I describe the general embodiment of the invention, the features thereof being moreparticularly defined hereinafter'in the claims.

Platform or body board 2, has depending therefrom by means of swinging yokes 5, mounted in brackets 6, a guide table 7, open at its bottom and provided with side channels 8, arrangedto receive with sliding relation thereto the supporting plate 9, of propeller and brake shoe 10. The shoe 10, consistsof two depending blades 11, having mounted on their lower edges friction straps 12, of rubber or any other suitable material andthe supporting plate 9, has mounted therein rollers 13, pivotally supported at 15 therein and arranged to engage and roll; upon the under surface 14:, of the swinging table 7, and said blades 11, have mounted therein on their respectiveouter surfaces supporting pins 15 arranged to receive portions'of the mechanism the object of which is hereinafter described. Swinging table 7, is fulcrumed on yokes 5, in brackets 6 through which it may swing forwardly and laterally or in a reciprocal action by reason of the propellingactuating mechanism controlled by reason of the hand and foot movement of the projecting or propelling mechanism.
