This invention relates to coin-controlled apparatus and has for its chief object to provide an apparatus of this kind that may require a plurality of coins for its operation and shall permit of speedy actuation.
According to the present invention, the coins are fed to a power driven element which passes them in consecutive order to a control device which actuates or permits the actuation of the delivery mechanism each time that coins amounting to a predetermined valuehave been passed to the said control device. Preferably the power driven element is continuously rotated.
One constructional form of improved coin controlled apparatus in accordance with this invention is diagrammatically indicated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is an end elevation of the parts of the apparatus that are associated with the coin control.
Figure 2 is a view looking in the direction of the arrow A in Figure 1.
The apparatus comprises a frame 1 within which is rotatably mounted a shaft 2 carrying an inclined circular disc 3 which extends above and is parallel to the face of a plate 41 forming part of the said frame 1. The shaft 2 is connected through gear wheels 5 and 6 with the rotary shaft 7 of an electric motor 8.
Leading to the lower portion of the disc Sis a sloping chute 9,and acover 10 surrounds part of the periphery of the said disc 3.
The central portion 11 of the disc is slightly raised relatively to the surrounding annular portion 12, and this part 12 is itself slightly raised above the surface of the extreme outer annular portion 13. Projections '14 are provided on the part 12 of the disc 3. To one side of the disc ismounted a control device comprising a toothed wheel 15 rotatably mounted about an axle 16 and carrying arms 17, 18, 19.
Mounted about the same axle 16 is a rocking lever 20 having an arm 21 which is adapt ed to be actuated by coins as hereinafter described. A spring 22 acts on the lever 20 and tends'to move it so that its arm 21 normally assumes the position indicated in dotted lines by 21. Pivotally mounted upon the lever 20 is a driving pawl 28 which is spring pressed so that its nose always tends to engage with the toothed wheel 15. A retaining pawl 23 controlled by a spring 24also acts on the toothed wheel 15. Contact members 25,26 are actuated by the arms 17, 18, 19 as hereinafter described. The operation of the device is as follows p p The coins are intended to be fed anyhow (either singly or in a bunch) into the inlet slot or orifice of the machine (not shown) and pass therefrom to the sloping chute 9 which leads them to the position represented diagrammatically by 27 where they lie against the face of the disc 3 due to its inclination.
The disc 3 is continuously driven round in the clockwise direction as indicated by the arrow 111 Figure 2, and the projections 14: thereon pick up the coins one by one and carry them round in succession so that each displacement of the driving pawl 28 drives the toothed wheel 15 through two teeth. That is to say two teeth of the toothed wheel '16 will pass the retaining pawl 23 when the lever 20 is so rocked. On the penny being carried round by the disc past the position 29, the lever 20 moves so that its arm returns to the position 21, but the rearward rotation of the toothed wheel 15 is prevented by'me'ans of the retaining pawl 23.
3O diagrammatically indicates a halfpenny, and it will be seen that by reason of its smaller diameter, it will impart a smaller rocking movement to the lever 20, and thus the toothed wheel 15 will only be turned through one tooth.
After the coins have acted upon the lever 20 they fall to the position indicated diagrammatically by 31 and are then passed to the money receptacle (not shown).
It will be seen that each time the toothed wheel 15 is rotated through an angle equal to that between consecutive arms 17 18, 19 (corresponding to the insertion of coins amounting to a predetermined value) the contact members 25, 26 will be momentarily brought together. Thus the last partial turn of the toothed wheel, on the insertion of the last coin to make up the predetermined value will cause the end of the appropriate arm (for example 17 to strike momentarily against a projection 32 on the contact member 25 and press it against the other contact member, thereby energizing an electric circuit to operate the mechanism controlled, for example to deliver a ticket. t will thus be seen that the rocking lever 20, arm 21, pawl 28, toothed wheel 15, and angularly spaced arms 17 18, 19, together with their associated retaining pawl 23 and springs 22 and 2% constitute an actuating device for the delivery control mechanism. It will also be seen that this actuating device operates the delivery control system represented by the contact members 25 and 26 each time that coins amounting to a predetermined value have passed to the actuating device, an arm 17, 18 or 19 acting as above described.
In order to ensure that the coins shall be fed round one after the other by the rotating disc, flat springs 33 may be provided that are fixed at their upper ends to the cover 10, while their lower and forwardly projecting ends bear against the rotating disc 3.
It will beseen that the machine is very speedy in operation, as the coins can be thrown into the inlet orifice in a bunch instead of being inserted separately through a narrow slot, and the coins will be separated automatically by the rotating disc 3 to actuate by the rocking lever 20 and toothed wheel 15, and the ticket or the like delivered. The next purchaser can throw in his coins before waiting for the delivery of theticket of the previous purchaser.
Instead of the arms 17, 18, 19 of the toothed wheel 15 acting on the contact member 25 to complete an electric circuit and positively actuate the delivery mechanism, the toothed wheel 15 may obviously actuate other types of mechanism. 7
It will be observed that the element 15 (toothed wheel) is moved through amounts depending on the number or value of the coins Cpassing it, and as said element is being move through a predetermined amount to a certain osition, it momentarily actuates means or example the contact member 25) that permit or effect the operation of the delivery mechanism, and on said element reaching said position, it is immediately ready for further displacement by the action of other coins in order to efiiect a further actuation of j the delivery mechanism. What I claim is and an actuating device adapted to operate said delivery control mechanism each time that coins amounting to a predetermined value have passed to said actuating device, in combination with a power driven rotary element adapted to pass coins in consecutive order to said actuating device.
3. An improved coin controlled apparatus h comprising a delivery control mechanism and an actuatingdevice adapted to operate said delivery control mechanism each time that coins amounting to a predetermined value have passed to said counting device, in combination with a power driven continuously rotating element adapted to pass coins in consecutive order to said actuating device.
4. An improved coin controlled apparatus comprising a delivery control mechanism and an actuating device adapted to operate said delivery control mechanism each time that coins amounting to a predetermined value have passed to said actuating device, in combination with a power driven inclined disc adapted to pass coins in consecutive order to said actuating device.
5. An improvedcoin controlled apparatus comprising a delivery control mechanism and an actuating device adapted to operate said delivery control mechanism each time that coins amounting to a predetermined value have passed to said actuating device, in combination with a power driven inclined disc adapted to pass coins in consecutive order to said actuating device, and a chute adapted to lead coins in a bunch to the face of said disc.

An improved coin controlled apparatus comprising a delivery control mechanism and an actuating device adapted to operate said delivery control mechanism each time that coins amounting to a predetermined value have passed to said actuating device, in combination with a power driven element, and projections on said power driven element, said power driven element being adapted to pass coins in consecutive order to said actuating device. 7

An improved coin controlled apparatus comprising a delivery control mechanism and an actuating device adapted to operate said delivery control mechanism each time that coins amounting to a predetermined value have passed to said actuating device, in combination with a power driven disc and a cover inclosing part of the disc to prevent coins from being carried around by said disc one on top of the other, said disc being adapted to pass coins in consecutive order to said actuating device.

An improved coin controlled apparatus comprising a delivery control mechanism, and an actuating device including an element which is adapted to be moved by each coin by an amount depending upon the size of the coin and to operate said delivery control mechanism momentarily each time that coins amounting to a predetermined value have passed to said actuating device, in combination with a power driven element adapted to pass coins in consecutive order to said actuating device. a

An improved coin controlled apparatus comprising a delivery control mechanism, and an actuating device comprising a lever adapted to be rocked by the passage of coins by an amount corresponding to the size of the coins, a driving pawl on said lever, and a toothed wheel operated by said driving pawl in proportion to the amount by which said lever is rocked, in combination with a power driven element adapted to pass coins in con secutive order to said actuating device.
10. In a coin controlled apparatus, an actuating device comprising a lever adapted to be rocked by the passage of coins by an amount corresponding to the size of the coins, a driving pawl on said lever, and a toothed wheel operated by said driving pawl in proportion to the amount by which said lever is rocked, in combination with a delivery control member, and an arm carried by said toothed wheel adapted to strike momentarily against said delivery control member each time said toothed wheel completes a predetermined angular movement.
11. In a coin controlled apparatus, an actuating device comprising a lever adapted to be rocked by the passage of coins by an amount corresponding to the size of the coins, a driving pawl on said lever, and a toothed wheel operated by said driving pawl in proportion to the amount by which said lever is rocked, in combination with a delivery control member comprising electrical contacts, and an arm carried by said toothed wheel adapted to strike momentarily against said delivery control member closing the electrical contacts each time said toothed wheel completes a predetermined angular movement.
