My invention relates to pulp strainers, employed in the art of paper making.
, The object of my invention is to provide a simple and etlicient pulp strainer-also 5 commonly known in the art as screen plate vat-of the type in which the screen plates are removable, to facilitate cleaning and repairing and in which the means provided for clamping the screen plates in the bottom of tlli vat arequickly and conveniently releas- Another object of my invention is to provide clamping devices adapted to be in parthoused in the side walls of the vat, and each comprising a clamping screw bearing on the ends of transverse beams provided for holding the screen plates in proper spaced relation, and` a supplementary clamping screw adapted to bear on longitudinal lining-andclamping bars bearing on the ends of the screen plates to hold them in place.
Another object of my invention is to provide clamping means adapted when released to lift the said lining-and-clamping bars clear of the screen plates, to facilitate cleaning.
A further object of my invention is to provide simple, inexpensive and eiiicient clamping means in the form of camping units each complete in itself andarranged in recesses provided therefor inthe interior faces of the side walls ofthe vat, whereby the removable parts of the strainer are secured in place.
Thus my invention may be said in one phase thereof to comprise the combination of a pulp strainer comprising in combination a vat having its interior faces provided with vertical recesses, screen plates and removable transverse beams, for locking the screen plates in place, lining and clamping bars arranged along the interior faces of the vat walls bearing on the said screen plates, and provided with packing on their bearing faces,

the said bars in place, such means adapted to permit the moving of the said bars from the screen plates without disturbing other parts of the strainer.

With reference to the figures, my invention comprises a rectangular vat a provided on its sides at the bottom with ledges b, on which are supported fixed transverse beams c and removable transverse beams d. In the bottom of the vat are arranged screen plates e, supported at their ends on the ledges b and are held in place by the beams c and d.
Along the side walls of the vat are provided clamps f comprising housings `g arranged in recesses hin the side walls of the vat, spaced relatively with the ends of the removable cross beams d. Y
The housings g are provided with longitudinal slots g on the sides facing the interior of the vat and with laterally projecting lugs i in which are threaded supplementary clamping screws j. Laterally extending ears g2 are provided on the lower end of the said housing tohold them securely in their re- 95 cesses. Vithin the housing is also threaded a clamping screw c, projecting upwardly through verticakholes h bored `in the said side walls. The screws c terminate in square Shanks c and are provided on their lower 10B m, rectangular in cross section and provided with packing n in their bearing faces. Recesses 0, spaced correspondingly to the clamps f and adapted to receive the lips Z of the clamps are provided in the said lining bars and strike plates p are provided partially covering the said recesses, against which the lips Z bear upwardly.
By this arrangement and construction the transverse beams and d and screen plates e,
being in place and the pressure blocks Z being tightly clamped down over the ends of the beams d, the lining-and-clamping bars m are then placed in position with the lips Z extending into the recesses o. The screws y' are then screwed tightly down on to the upper edges of the lining bars, thus securely holding the screen plate in the bottom ofthe vat.
For conveniently operating the screws y' and c a suitable socket wrench 2 may be used v as illustrated by Fig.y 10.
When the screen vat is to be cleaned or the plates removed, the screws j will first be un- Nscrewed taking i the pressure off the lining lfbars, and then the screws 7c will be released,
which will release the pressure from the .beams d and at the same time lift the lining bars clear of the accumulated pulp and waste, so that they may be conveniently removed, and the screen plates lifted therefrom by raising one end sufficiently to clear the lugs f1, and
then withdrawing them longitudinally from the vat.
Thus b providing a pressure screw 7: for
` holding t e screen plates in position in the l.bottom of the vat, and a supplementary screw j for clamping the lining bars min place, the latter may be removed without disturbing the screen plates, as when the vat is being cleaned by an attendant scraping or hosing the accumulated refuse therefrom.
I claim:
1. In a pulp strainer, in combination, a vat, screen plates, supporting means therefor and removable transverse beams locking the screen plates in place, lining and clamping bars arranged along the interior faces of the vat walls and bearing on the screen plates, devices secured to the vat walls provided with means for clamping said beams and bars 50 in place, such devices comprising acasting having a screw threaded. therein, and a block, -slidably carriedby said casting, removably lsecured to said screw and said casting provided with a rojection having a clam-ping screw threade therein bearing on said bars.
- 2. In a pulp strainer, in combination, a vat, screenl plates, supportin means therefor and removable transverse neams locking the screen plates in place, lining and clamping bar s arranged alon the interior faces of the vat walls and bearing on the screen plates, devices secured to the vat walls provided with means for clamping said beams and bars in place, such devices comprising a casting having a screw threaded therein, and a block, slidably carried by said casting, removably secured tosaid screw, said casting provided with a projection having a clamping screw threaded therein bearing on said bars and means inter-locking the said bars with said blocks.
3. In a pulp strainer, in combination, a vat whose interior faces are provided with vertical recesses, screen plates, supporting means therefor and removable transverse beams locking the screen plates in place, lining and clamping bars arranged along the interior faces of the vat walls and bearing on the screen plates, devices located in said recesses of the vat walls provided with means for clamping said beams and bars in place, such devices comprising a casting having a screw threaded therein, and a block, slidably carried by said casting, removably secured to said screw and said casting provided with a projection having aclamping screw threaded therein bearing on said bars.
4. In a pulp strainer, in combination, a vat, screen plates, supportin means therefor land removable transverse gbeams locking the screen plates in place, lining and clamping bars arranged along the interior faces of the vat walls and bearing on the screen plates, devices secured to the vat walls provided with means for clamping said beams and bars in place, comprising an elongated casting provided with a longitudinal channel in one end, a screw threaded in said casting projecting into said channel, and a block secured to said screw, slidable in said channel and said casting provided with a projection having a clamping screw threaded therein bearing on said bars.
5. In a pulp strainer, in combination, a vat, whose interior faces are provided with vertical recesses, screen plates, supporting means therefor and removable transverse beams locking the screen plates in place, lining and clamping bars arranged along the interior faces of the, vatwalls and bearing on the screen plates, devices located in said recesses of the vat walls provided with means for clamping said beams and bars in place, comprising'an elongate casting provided with a longitudinall channel in one end, a screw threaded in said casting projecting into said channel, and a block secured to said screw, slidable in said channel and said casting provided With a projection having a clamping screw threaded therein bearing on said bars.
