Description

Feb. 18, 1930. N. c. GUIDEN H HANGER SUPPORT FORWARDROBE 'I'RUNKS Filed April 18, 1929 Patented Feb. 18, 1930 NICHOLAS C. GUIIDEN, OF BRISTOL, CONNECTICUT, .ASSIG-N'OR*TO J'. 1-1. SESSIONS& S ON,
OF BRISTOL, CONNECTICUT, A CORPOBAT-IOII OEfCQNT-N'ECTICUT V HANGER SUPPORT FOR (WARDROBE TBUNKS Application filed April 18, 4929. Serial No. 356,054.
My invention relates to the class of devices employed for supporting clothes hangers more particularly in connection with wardrobe trunks, and an object of my invention, among others, is the production of such a support that, while having means for limiting swinging movement of the swinging member of the structure may at the same time be used on either side of the trunk.
One form of a device embodying my invention, and in the construction and use of which, the objects herein set out, as well as others, may be attained, is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a view in cross section through a trunk near that end which is uppermost when the trunk is placed in position for use as a wardrobe, my improved support being attached thereto and shown in its folded condition, the trunk cover being removed.
Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1 but with a portion of the trunk structure broken out, the support being shown in its open or extended position.
Figure 3 is a view in section on a plane denoted by the dotted line 3 3 of Figure 1, but showing a clothes hanger in place.
Figure 4 is a view of a fragment of a trunk showing my improved support in side elevation and in extended condition.
Figure 5 is an isometric view, scale enlarged, of my improved support.
Figure 6 is an isometric view of a fragment of a trunk showing my improved device secured in place onone side thereof.
It has been common practice, prior to myinvention, to provide hanger supports that are affixed to the inner surfaces of the sides l of wardrobe trunks for the purpose of receiving clothes hangers on the upper sides of said supports. Owing to their peculiar construction it has been necessary to provide two supports for a single trunk, one for the right and the other for the left hand side thereof, in order that a stop mayproperly function to limit the swinging movement of the swingin arm. r
11y improved hanger support, as in prior structures, comprises two supporting bracket members each with a stationary hanger sup port and a swinging hangersupport mounted thereon, but I soform one. of. the bracket members and the swinging support that structures of like construction may be applied to either side of the trunk, and I, therefore, require only a single construction of the support.,
trated in the accompanying drawings in which the numeral7 indicates a trunk of or-' inner surfaces of the sides of which,my improved support is attached.
substantially a right angle thereto. This bracket 8 issecured'to the back or bottom Wall of the trunk, depending upon itsposition. A swingingsupport 10 is pivotally attached to'thc outer end ofthe support 9, said swinging support having an offset part '11 underlying the stationary member 9 inorderthat these two supports may be located substantlally in the same plane. The shoulder of the offset part is so positioned and the end of the member 9 is so formed' that the swinging support'lO may be swung in either direction from its positioninline-with the member 9. f A particular feature of my invention resides in a universalbracket 12 arranged to be secured to aside wall of a trunk and hav- Such improved hanger support is'jillus- -dinary and well-knownconstructiontojthe mg a supporting arm 13 extending at an angle to the bracket and; a spacing part 14 extending at. an angle tothe arm 13 substantially arallel with. the bracket 12. v
An important feature .of my invention resides in a supporting lip 15 thatispivotally attached to the stationary 'support'9 so that theuniversal bracket, that, in fact, includes the arm 13, spacing part 14 and lipf15, may be variously positioned With respectto' the support 9,'that is, the bracket 12 may be 10- cated to project at either side of said suppor A I In afixlng the supports to the inner. walls of trunk the bracketlEZ is located on one slde I of the support 9 for one side of the trunk and on'the Opposite side of said support for the opposite side of the trunk,, the pivotal attachment of the lip 15 to the support 9 enablingthis result to be attained. V a
The inner end of theswinging support 10' is ofiset from the offset part 11 and is extended so that it will rest against the spac- M a 'ing part 14 of the bracket When the support I 10 10 is extended, this last mentioned ofi'set portion therefore forming astop 16 resting against the part 14 in either position of the bracket with respect to the support 9 and thereby, in both cases, fixing the position of thesyvinging support 10 in line with the stationary support 9.' The stop16 is offset, as above described, rin.order that itmay swing I under the supporting lip 15, and as shown in I Figureb of the drawings.
