HOLDERS FOR G'RINUING NEEDLES..
'Patented March 14,1876.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.'
HENRY M. DIXON, OF BROOKLYN, E. D., ASSIGNOR TO 'HIMSELF AND ROBERT E. DUNHAM, OF JAMAICA, NEW YORK. l
IMPROVEMENT IN HOLDERS FoR GRINDING NEEDLES.
.,i Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 174,722, dated` March 14,' 1876; application filed February 14, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY M. DIXON, of Brooklyn, E. D., Kings county, New York, have invented a new and Improved Holder for Grinding Needles, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists ot' a little tube with notches in the side, suitably shaped for insert-ing sewing machine needles, so that the points will project at the end suitably for grinding them, the tube forming'a practicable holder, which can be held and turned uniformly, so as to grind the points round and true, which cannot be done by the common Way ot' holding needles by hand, owing to the small size and short length of the needles.
The tube has dilerent sizes ot the bore at each end to adapt it to needles of different sizes, but one size is suitable for several dit'- ferent sizes .ot' needles, owing to the taper shape of the needles, and to the springing of the needles a little in the holder.
Figure lis a longitudinal sectional elevation of my improved needle-holder, taken on line .c a', Fig. 2; and Fig. 2 is a side View.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the tube, which has a notch, B, through the side near each end, adapted for inserting a sewing-machine needle, C, as shown in Fig. l, so that the pointwill project suitably for grinding it, the tube forming a better holder than the needle itself.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A sewing-machine-needle'holder, consisting ot' a tub A, having one or more notches, B, in the side, arranged for inserting the needle with the point projecting from the end, substantially in the manner described.
HENRY M. DIXON. Witnesses:
