IMPROVEMENT IN SASH-FASTENERS.
Specilication forming part of Letters Patent N0. E, tilted March 14,1876; application tiled February 21, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. Burr'row, ot' Milford, in the county of \orcester, tate of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and usei'ul Improvement in Sash-Fasteners, ot' which the following is a description suficiently full, clear, and exact to enable an y person skilled in the art or science to which my invention appertains to maire and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specificah tion, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation, showing the fastener in use; and Fig. 2, a vertical longitudinal section ofthe same.

My invention rela-tes to that class of sashfastcncrs which are designed to be inserted in the side rails ot the sash; and consists in a novel combination, construction, and arrangemcnt ot' the parts, as hereinafter more fully set forth and definitely claimed, by which a more elit'ective device ot' this character is produced than is now in ordinary use.
The nature and operation of my invention will be readily obvious to all conversant with suoli matters from the following description:

The stud m is permanently fixed to the rail by means of the screws m; but the lever C is pivoted thereto by the screw D, the hole through 'which this screw passes in the lever being slightly rlargyer than the body ot' the screw, to permit the necessary oscillating movements of the lever.
In the use ot' my improvement, itwill be ob- A vious that by pressing downwardly on the free end ofthe lever G it will act against the inner side of the head F to withdraw the bolt H, et the same time compressing the spring I; and tha-t when the lever' is released the spring will act expansively to force the bolt out, and thus tasten the sash, the object of the stud being to assist in manipulating the lever.
Having thus explained my invention, what I claim is- -In a sash-fastener, the combination ot' stud B, bii'urceted lever G, 'screw D, spring I, and bolt H, provided with the shoulder a., flattened neck G, and hea-d F, constructed and arranged to operate substantially as set forth and specitied.
