y,Fig 9 is a modication of the groove or U-shaped metal strip that is pivotally connectedgtoy the window frame, and l Fig. `1'() is .a modification for supporting the screen from the upper portion of the window frame for a casementwindowA construction.
Referring to the'drawings in detail:
't 1designatesthe screen wire; 2 the channel members each of which are formed ywith a bottom portion 3,' the upwardly extending end part 4l, the horizontally extendingA portion 5', the end 6 of which is vbent inward yto form the curved surface or edge r7. 8 is a portion that is bent upward which is the inner edge of the frame rand forming 'the angle part 9. 10 designates the locking element for securing the screen wire in place in the channeled yframe members 2, and,y at the Asame time stretching vthek screen wire. The edge part 11 engages the lscreen wire 1 at the bend 9 of the metallic frame. VItis then folded as indicated -at 12 on itself forming the portion k13,then7foldedy at 14 and against the part rv11. It is folded a thirdtime as indicated at15 and the end 16 is bent inward against 'the portion 13. The two folded edge parts 12j and-'15 provide'a V-shaped edge as indicated at 17 w-hich engages the curved edge 7 Vof the' frame. The locking strip 10 is inserted by placing theedge portion 11 against Athe screengwire 1, as shown. Itis then moved g inward, inthe direction-of the arrow 18 "forcing theV-shaped-edge 17k against the curved edge'7. Since the portion 5 is-more 'the screen ,wire 1. -v
or less elastic it servesto retain the locliing member in place and properly stretches The adjacent corner pieces 2 yare locked to# gether by means of the right angular shaped member 19, having the depressions and 21. The members W2 are formed with struck up tongue portions 20 which enter the recesses 20 and 21 as shown in Fig. 4. Their ends engage the shoulders 23'tlius preventing the adjacent corner portions ofthe screen frames from drawing apart. v i
Referring to Fig. 6 which shows the complete window frame installed, 24 designates the window sill on whiclithe lower edge 4 ofthe screen frame'i'ests. '25 is'avstrip of angle 'iron that is secured to the sill V24 by meansbf the screws 26. 27 is a spring catch tliatis located on thestrip 25.l It is formed with a shoulder part 2,8 that snaps over the portion 8 of the screen frame when thescreen is moved downward. This prevents ythe removal of the screen from the outside of the window screen. It is to be understood thatthis View shows the screen as being insert-able from the inside. The runway is indicated at 30. 31 is the dotted line yposition of the screen4 when-it being inserted froml the inside. y32 is a folded spring for closing the opening or space, at the upper edge 33 and the runway forpvreventii'ig flies'from passing downv ward into theopening. Thefrunway 30 is secured to they vertical'sidefofv the window frame 341. with the. screw 3.5. The/'part 36 re Vceives the rearedge 3Y of the screen and the edge 37 of the Vrunway receives tlie'edg'e 4 ofthe screen. By means of this construction vthe edge 4 does not engagethe screw when the screen is vmoved upward or downward. .The flange2.5 of the angle iron strip 2,5.holds the screen firmlyin place against't-he part 36 ofthe'ruiiway and preventsthe screen from `being in ved inwardi when in its lowerinost Position-f YA t should .be stated that the spring 32 allows for.V any-differences in distances between y vthe width .of the screen` frame and the disltance between the edges of the l metallic runway. s v I Y Fig. 9 illustrates th-e` frame ofthe screen Y in the VU-shaped runway which comprises. a
pivotal section 38 that is secured tothe win-v dow frainewiththe screw 39, 38"isthezli`xed section. VVhenitis, tipped, as shown, into the dotted line position the window screen section may be inserted' from the -..inside. Whenfit is-inserted the screenv and the. runway is tipped back into the vertical or full line position, thescreen. may then be lowered or raised as desiredpin the runway. This construction permits a screen tobe inserted where, -shelvesor Aother obstructions would Y not permit the screen tobe inserted theusual way.
in full lines. It is insertedin kthe ina-nner indicatedin the dotted line position'. This con- Y struction is for easement windows and hangs, Y
orfdepends, from the part 40. The construction of the window screen is 'exactly the same as if shown yin the other with the addition ofV the folded part 44. y
