The object of my invention. is to provide means whereby the form cylinder may be independently adjusted, both rotatively with respect to its driving means and in anend- Wise direction, especially while the press is running, so that the form on the cylinder may be brought into longitudinal and lateral register easily and quickly; thereby obviating the necessity of shifting the form on its cylinder, which latter must be done while the .press is at rest and at a considerable loss of printing time.
- A practical embodiment of my invention represented in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 represents a detail side view of the printing press showing the two mechanisms for adjusting the form cylinder both rotatively with respect to its driving means and in an endwise direction laterally of the frame.

The form cylinder 1 of the printing press has the oppositely projecting ends 2 and 30f its shaft rotatably mounted for endwise movement in suitable bearings 4: and 5 in the sides 6 and 7 respectively of the printing press frame.
The spiral wide faced form cylinder gear 8 is slidably interlocked with the end 3 of the form cylinder shaft, in the present instance by making the gear hollow and providing its bore 9 with longitudinal grooves 10 for slidably receiving the feathers 11 secured on the enlarged portion 12 of the shaft end 3 located within said gear.
The form cylinder driving means includes a geasr 13meshing with the form cylinder gear The mechanism for adjusting the form cylinder rotatively with respect to its driving means while the press is running, is as follows:
The outer end of the form cylinder gear 8 is provided with a plate 14 havin a trunnion 15 on which is loosely mounte the hub 16 of a yoke having four arms 17, 18 and 19, 20, a collar 21 fast on the trunnion serving to causethe form cylinder gear 8 to be moved across the face of the driving gear 13 by the movement of the yoke. Two operatively connected hand screw shafts 22, 23, are located on opposite sides of the gear 8, which shafts are rotatably mounted against endwise movement in the side frame 7 and have screwthreaded engagements with the opposite arms 17, 18 of the gear moving yoke. A sprocket chain 24 passes around sprockets 25, 26 fast on the said hand screw shafts 22, 23 so that these shafts may be moved in unison. These shafts may be provided with :pitable hand wheels 27 28 for manipulating iem.
The mechanism for adjusting the form cylinder in an endwise direction while the press is running without disturbing its rotative adjustment is located on the same side of the frame as the mechanism for adjusting the form cylinder rotatively, and it is constructed and arranged as follows:
The hub 29 of a yoke having two arms 30, 31 is loosely mounted on the end 3 of the form cylinder shaft inside the side frame 7, between the formv cylinder and a collar 32 fast on the shaft so that the cylinder will be moved endwise by the yoke. Two operatively connected hand screw shafts 33, 34 located on-opposite sides ,of the form cylinder gear 8 are rotatably mounted against endwise movement in the side frame 7 and have screwthreaded engagements with the arms 30, 31 of the cylinder moving yoke. These hand screw shafts pass freely through the opposite arms 19, 20 of the gear moving yoke for preventing it from turning as it is moved along said shafts. A. sprocket chain 35 for passes around sprockets 36, 37 fast on said shafts 33, 34 so that the shafts may be moved in unison. These shafts may be provided with suitable hand wheels 38, 39 for manipu- 5 lating them..
It will be seen from the above description that the form cylinder may be adjusted to bring its form into proper register even though the press be running, the adjustments for the longitudinalposition and the lateral position of the form being made independently and the means for controlling these adj ustments being located conveniently for the operator. v
It is evident that various changes may be resorted to in the construction, form and arrangement of the several parts without department from the spirit and scope of my invention; hence, I do not wish to be limited to theparticular embodiment herein shown and described, but
What I claim is 1. In a rotary printing press, a form cylinder, its spiral gear,-a driving gear meshing 2 therewith, and manually operated mechanism for moving the form cylinder gear across the face of its driving gear to adjust the rotative position of the form cylinder with respect to said driving gear.
2. In a rotary printing press, a form cylinder, its spiral gear, a driving gear meshing therewith, a yoke en aging the-form cylinder gear and a hand s aft gear engaging the yoke for 1 moving the form cylinder gear across-the face of its driving gear to adjust the rotative position of the form cylinder gear with respect ,to said driving gear.
3. In a rotary printing press, a form cylin- I der, its spiral gear, a driving gear meshing therewith, a yoke engaging the form cylinder gear, and a hand gear shaft rotatively mounted in the frame and having a screw-threaded engagement with said yoke for moving the form cylinder gear across the face of its driving gear to adjust the rotative position of the form cylinder with respect to said driving gear. In a rotary printing press, a form cylinder, its spiral gear, a driving gear meshing gear, and a pair of operatively connected hand screw shafts rotatively mounted in the frame on opposite sides of the form cylinider gear and having screw-threaded engagements with the said yoke for moving the slidably interlocked therewith, and manually I operated mechanism for adjusting the cylin- 'der endwise without changing the position of the form cylinder gear.
7. In a rotary printing press, a frame, a form cylinder, its shaft, a form cylinder spiral gear slidably interlocked therewith, a yoke engaging the form cylinder shaft, and a hand gear shaft engaging the yoke for adjusting the cylinder endwise in the frame without changing the position of the form cylinder gear.
8. In a rotary printing press, a frame, a form cylinder, its shaft, a form cylinder spiral gear slidably interlocked therewith, a yoke engaging the form cylinder shaft, and a hand gear shaft rotatively mounted in the frame and having a screw-threaded connection with said yoke for adjusting the cylinder endwise without changing the position of the form cylinder gear.
9. In a rotary printing press, a frame, a form cylinder, its shaft, a form cylinder spiral gear slidably interlocked therewith, a yoke engaging the form cylinder shaft, and a pair of hand screw shafts engaging the yoke on opposite sides of the said form cylinder gear for adjusting the cylinder. endwise in the frame without changing the position of the form cylinder gear.

In a rotary printing press, a frame, a form cylinder, its shaft, a form cylinder spiral gear slidably interlocked therewith, a yoke engaging the form cylinder shaft, and a pair of hand screw shafts rotatively mounted in the frame on opposite sides of said form cylinder gear and having screwthreaded engagements with said yoke for adjusting the cylinder endwise in the frame without changing the position of the form cylinder gear.-
