Description

direction as settling takes place Without imposingl any strain either on the plastered surface or either of the thimbles. For instance, if the chimney settles after the building is completed, the fingers 14 will merely yield and the chimney thimble will assume an eccentric position with relation to the sub-thimble. N o strain, however, is transmitted either to the chimney thimble or the sub-thimble and cracking of either plaster or the chimney thimble is prevented.
The sub-thimble is considerably larger in diameter than the chimney thimble so as to provide the annular space .18; this space being provided for the fingers 14 and to prevent movement of the thimbles with relation to each other Without contacting. This an- .nular space is, in the present instance, closed by a sleeve 19 which `is slipped over the inner end of the thimble 6. The-sleeve is provided with an annular {iange 20, larger in diameter than the sub-thimble 10, and the annular space 18 will thus be covered.
The stove chimney, indicated at 21, will be connected in the usual manner by inserting it inthe inner end of the thimble 6, as shown in Fig. 2, and an ornametal pipe collar may be applied, as indicated by dotted lines at 22.
While certain features of the present invention have been more or less specifically -described and illustrated, .I wish it understood that various changes may be resorted to Within the scope of the appended claim; and similarly that the materials and finishfof the several parts employed may besuch as the experience of the manufacturer may dictateor varying conditions may demand.
Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent isln a structure of the character described a sub-thimble, comprising an elongated cylindricalfshaped shell, an annular outwardly extending fiance on each end thereof, a plurality of resilient spring fingers secured on the intcrior'surface ofthe shell, a-second thimlile'of smallerdiameter adapted to assume a -eoncentric position Within the subthimble and a flange 'formed on the outer endof the second thimble and 'having a diameter substanti ally equal to the langes on Athe ends of .the sub-thimble.
