I; a la m M We Rosa M. AMHES Patented Jan. 14, 1930 UNITED STATES PATUE ROSA M. AMORES, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA GARMENT HANGER Application filed October 22, 1928. Serial No. 314 ,161.
The present invention relates to garment hangers and has for its main object the provision of means associated with the arms of a garment hanger arranged to overlie portions of a garment suspended from the hanger to thereby prevent the garment from slipping therefrom.
The invention can best be understood by reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of a garment hanger having the present invention applied thereto and showing the device in use. 1
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 2--2 of Fig. 1, illustrating the means for releasably securing a retaining member to the arm of the hanger.
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 but shows a different type of securing means.
Fig. 4 is a side elevation of a wire hanger having the present invention applied thereto.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line 55 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 6 is a detailed view showing a modification of the retaining member.
Fig. 7 is a plan view of the device shown in Fig. 6.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the reference character 10 designates generally a wooden garment hanger of a more or less familiar construction, comprising diverging arms 11. Retaining members 12 are associated with the diverging arms 11 in folding relation thereto by means of pivot pins 13 which pass through the ends of the retaining members and through the arms 11 at or near the free ends thereof. Securing members 14 are attached to the retaining members 12 at or near the free ends thereof and may comprise metal clasps as shown in Fig. 2, or a separable snap fastener 14, as
illustrated in Fig. 3.
Fig. 4 shows a garment hanger 10 of a wire type and of a more or less usual construction comprising the diverging arms 11. Retaining members 12 are secured to the free ends of the diverging arms 11 in pivotal relation thereto. As shown in Fig. 5,
the retaining members12 are provided at the free ends thereof with bent portions 15 adapted to embrace the arms 11 for releasably securing the retaining members in position.
In Fig. 6 there is shown a modified form of retaining member which may be applied to a number of types of garment hangers and is illustrated as applied to a hanger of the type shown in Fig. 1. This modified construction comprises a retainin finger 16 pivotally secured to the arm 11 by a pivot pin 17 As shown in Fig. 7,v the finger 16 may be swung from the position shown in full lines to the position shown in dotted lines to facilitate placing the garment on and removing it from the hanger.
The use of the device is illustrated in Figs. 1, 6 and 7. In these figures a garment m G is shown suspended from the hanger. The retaining members 12, in Fig. 1, and the retaining finger 16, in Figs. 6 and 7, overlie portions of the garment to thereby prevent it from slipping from the hanger.
While I have shown the invention applied outer ends disposed near the outer ends of said diverging arms and said outer ends pivotally connected thereto, the free portionsof said retaining members being movable in a vertical plane toward the central portion to overlie portions of a garment suspended from the hanger to prevent unintentional removal of the garment from the hanger, said retaining members being movable away from the central portion of the hanger to permit removal of the garment.
2. The combination with a garment hanger having a central portion and diverging arms, of retaining members having their outer ends disposed near the outer ends of said diverging arms and said outer ends pivotally connected thereto, the free portions of said retaining members being m0vable in a vertical plane toward the centralportion to overlie portions of agarment suspended from the hanger to prevent unintentional removal of the garment from the hanger, said retaining members being movable aWay from the central portion of the hanger to permit, removal or the garment, and means for releasably securing the inner ends of i said retaining members to said diverging arms In testimony whereof, I hereunto afiix my signature. 7 v
