IMPROVEMENT IN STOVE-DRUMS.
L Specification forming part of LettersPatent No- 174,393, dated March 7, 1876; application fi1ed- A l v d January 27, 1876. A
A .To alfwhjoin ttfmay concern: i I V Be it known that WGQANTON. F; AN-- DERER and JACOB GILG, of the city of Milwaukee,in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove-Drums; and
l we do hereby declarethat the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will=enable others skilled in the artto which it appertains to make and use thesame, reference being bad to the accompanyingdrawings, and to theletters of refcrencefmarked thereon, which form a part of this specifica- This invention consists in improvements in theconstructioni of; stove-drums with direct ward side draft or flue, and double-iactin g re- The claim and drawing will further explain" A the nature of this invention.

The baseAD may be re-" moved to clean thefdrumfi-=E is an opening A in the center pipe 13.; FF are openings above e, the partitions Q is a center flue, I is A A 1 an upward-draft flueeigJisa downward 'draft may be openedtofventilate the room or cool A the drum. 1L is alji extension-pipe, which-may be raised or lowered, and is adjusted ,by the Kiskaj'slidealoor, iir the drum A, which has a flange 1on1 its lower :end, by-whichit'is attached to the center pipe B, leaving a-space I between thegpipes N and B for the extensiom pipe Lqw'lhe guide: pipe N conducts the smoke intofithe extension-pipe L, whichyis lfitted but looselytothe center pipe, so that it may be easily moved upward and downward, and prevents the smoke from escaping. W ,0 O are dampers- P is a damper-rod. A Q is a supporting-bar,andsupports the front end of the dampers O 0-,andis attached at each end A to the drum A. ,Itisa clasp attached tothe A draft through the flue H.
supporting-bar Q, throughwhich the damper- Aro'd P'moves, and by which it is guided. S S are wire hooks, which are attached to the damper-rod? by staples T, and are hooked through small holes to the brackets U U. The dampers O O are connected together by a hinge, V. W is a slotted bracket, which supports and guides the back endof the dampers 0 O. Y is a hinge-pin to the hinge V, and extends through the slot X, and serves to guide the dampers 0 O in their reciprocatl'ng motion.
:Our invention is operated as follows: When it is desired to heat the drum A, the rod 1 is I drawn out, when the dampers 0 0 have a direct forward motion until the hinge-pin Y strikes the end of the slot X, at which point the hinge becomes stationary, and, by the continued drawing on the rod P, the dampers O r 0 turn upon the hinge V until they come together under the rod P, whereby the center A flue H is closed. When the center flue is closed the smoke passes upward in the flue I to the top of thedrum A, when it passes over the partitions G G into the downdraft flue J to the openings E, whereit passes into the centerpipe B and escapes.
given to the rod P, when the dampers 0-0 have first a direct backward movement until the hinge-pin'Y strikes against the back end of the'slot'X, when they separate and close the flue I, when the smoke will have a direct We claim as our invention, and desire'to secure by'Letters Patente j Thedrum A, center pipe B, partitions O O,
