My present invention relates to improvements in electric heaters for domestic use, and involves an attachment for use in combination with the well known type of electric heat radiators, whereby the latter are converted for use as stoves that are adapted for cooking under the term of light housekeeping.
By the utilization of the device of my invention the electric heat radiator is readily converted for use as a cooking utensil under the above term, and with equal facility the cooking utensil may be converted or returned to its original condition for the performance of its usual functions.
In carrying out my invention 1 provide a stove that is applicable for use with the cage of the heat radiator, and means are provided for attaching and fastening the stove to the cage of the radiator in such manner that the functions of the stove may be performed with efficiency and the device thus serve as a con venient implement or utensil in various ways The invention consists in certain novel combinations and arrangements of parts as will hereinafter be more fully set forth and claimed. In the accompanying drawings 1 have illustrated one complete example of the physical embodiment of my invention where in the parts are combined and arranged according to the best mode I have thus far devised for the practical application of the principles of my invention.
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of an electric heat radiator of the domestic type 5 shown by full lines converted for use as a stove, and in dotted lines illustrating the radiator without the stove.
Figure 2 is a top plan View of the stove. Figure 3 is a bottom plan view of the stove illustrating it attached to the cage or screen of the radiator.
Figure 4 is a cross sectional view of the stove showing its attachment to the cage or screen, and Figure 5 is an enlarged detail sectional view showing the means for attaching the stove to the cage or screen.
In carrying out my invention 1 utilize an electric heat radiator of well known type that comprises a base 1 and hemispherical radiator 2 having the usual inner reflector sur- Serial No. 326,826.
face of concave shape, and hinged at 3 to the base so that the radiator may be turned down to horizontal position as in Figure 1 when it is to be used as a stove, or the radiator may be turned to dotted position for the usual performance of its functions as heat radiator in the absence of the stove. The usual type of heating element is fixed at the center of the concave reflector or radiator and the electric wires lead thereto from a suitable source of supply for the electric current.
The cage 5 that forms the screen or shield for the heating element and reflector, is fashioned with a circular, split rim 6 and the rim is resilient so that it may be contracted and snapped under the rim or flange 7 of the radiator. After the split rim is placed under the flange the rim expands and thereby retains the cage in its proper position for use, either when the device is used as a heat radiator, or when the device is used as a stove.
The attachment comprises a stove 8 that is fashioned in concavosc-onvex form to conform to the contour of the cage, and when in use the stove is inverted in its relation to the concavo-convex heater or heat radiator 2. The stove is attached to the cage, preferably before the latter is attached to the radiator, by means of a central bolt 9 that passes through an openin in the stove, through the cage, and through an opening in a retaining or clamp plate 10 located within the cage, and a nut 11 on the exterior of the plate is used to clamp these parts together.
The stove is fashioned with a circular flat central portion in which are arovided holes 12 for the passage of hot air currents and the openings, or the area of the openings, is controlled by the use of a circular damper plate 13. This damper has holes 14 that may reg ister with the holes 12, and the damper also has a bolt hole 15 in its center so that the damper may be turned on the bolt as a pivot to close the openings in the stove, or to partially close the openings, or to entirely uncover the openings so that they will register with the holes in the damper to permit free movement of the hot air currents from the heat radiator. as best seen in Figure 5 the damper plate is located at the under or inner lee side of the stove, between the latter and the cage or screen and the damper is clamped with the proper friction to hold the damper in adjusted position, after it has been turned to its desired location.
The damper is fashioned with a handlelG that projects through a slot 17 in the stove so that the damper may readily be turned from the outside of the stove.
From the above description takenin connection with my drawings it will be apparent that I have provided an attachment for the electric heat radiator whereby the latter may be converted for use as a heating or cooking stove to efficiently perform the functions of such a utensil when desired, or the attachment may readily be removed to restore the device for use as an electric heat radiator, thus combining the functions of the two devices in a single device.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. The combination with a removable cage for an electric heat radiator and means for attaching said cage to the radiator, of a stove hving openings therein, a clamp bolt and clamp plate for securing the stove to the cage, and a perforated damper for adjusting the area of the openings in the top of the stove.
2. The combination with a removable cage for an electric heat radiator and means for attaching the cage to the radiator, of a stove having a perforated portion and a slot, clamp bolt and clamp nut and a clamp plate for securing the stove to the cage, and a perforated damper pivoted on the bolt having a handle projecting through said slot.
