Description
H. C. STOLL CIGARETTE BOX Jan. 14, 1930.
Filed April 20, 1929 66 a gVENTOR MXM AT OR NEY Patented Jan. 14, 193!) UNET STATES HENRY C, STOLL, OF BRONX, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TU UNIVERSITY MANUFACTURING i PATENT OFFICE,
& SALES CO. INC., OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK CIGARETTE BOX Application filed April 20, 1929.
This invention relates to boxes or containers for cigarettes and the like, and special objects of the inventionare to provide container of this character, which will hold a desired supply of the cigarettes or other articles and which can be handily operated for delivering the articles one at a time for use.
Further special objects of the invention are to provide a simple, substantial inexpensive form of article delivery apparatus, which can be readily manufactured and assembled.
These objects are attained by certain novel features of construction, combinations and relations of parts as set forth in the following specification and broadly covered in the claims.
The drawing accompanying and forming part of the specification, illustrates one practical commercial embodiment of the invention and it should be understood that the structure may be modified as regards this .lisclosure without departures from the true spirit and broad scope of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a plain view of the device with the cover removed and showing one of the articles in the delivery chute ready forde- Iivery; Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the device as on substantially the plane of line 2-2, Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a broken bottom view of the device; Fig. 4 is a bottom plan view of a modified form of construction.
Referring first to Figs. 1 and 2, it will be seen that the device consists of two main parts, a holder or box portion 5, usually equipped with a suitable cover 6 and a base or supporting portion 7 This base part is illustrated as having a raised flat table por tion on which the box member slides and said box member is shown as confined in this relation by the dependent lugs 9 on the ends of the same working down through longituelinal slots 10 in the table and held by cotterpins or equivalent fastening means 11 at the underside of the table.
A transverse article delivery-way 12 is shown formed in the intermediate portion of the table, said way being indicated in Fig. 2
as a trough or depression in the table large Serial No. 356,793.
enough to freely contain a full-size article.
The delivery mechanism comprises in the first form of the invention a lever 13 pivoted on a stud 14 on the underside of the table, within the hollow base and having on its free end an upwardly extending ejector finger 15 operating up through a slot 16 in the bot tom of the delivery way. This ejector lever is shown as actuated by a link or lever 17 pivotally connected at one end at 18 with the ejector lever and pivotally connected at its opposite end at 19 with the left hand lug 9, which is shown in Fig. 2 as extended down far enough to provide a proper seat for the end of the actuating lever.
In the example illustrated, the pivotal mounting 19 for the actuating lever is in the form of a screw seat, Fig. 2 and the lever has an upwardly bent portion 20 screwthreaded to rotatably fit in said screw seat. This enables the actuating lever being quickly mounted in place by screw-threading the end 20 into the seat 19 after the box has been mounted on the base, and then engaging the opposite down-turned end 21 of the actuating lever in the hole 22 provided therefor in the ejector lever. The pivot mounting 14 for the ejector lever may be in the form of a screw engaged in the bottom of a post 23, dependent from the underside of the base.
The opening 22 in the ejector lever is preferably located relatively close to the pivotal support 14 so that movement of the end 18 of the actuating lever will swing the free end: of the e ector lever through a wide are as 1n- 7 dicated in Fig. 3. Thus, a comparatively short sliding movement of the box on the base will through the movement-multiplying connection 17 throw the ejector lever through a considerable angle for ejecting the article in the trough, a distance suflicient for it to be readily grasped in the fingers.
The form of the invention may be simplified as indicated in Fig. 4 by using only a single lever as indicated at 17 pivoted at 19' in the lower end of the lug 9 operating in the slots 10, the other end of said lever having an upturned ejecting finger 15 operating in the slot 16 in the bottom of the delivery said e ector-operating 1n the trough and contrough 12'. In this particular construction, the longitudinal slots 10' are shown co-extensive as a single continuous slot, in the back portion of the base at the rear of the delivery ay. The movement of the box in this case directly actuates the ejector lever, the same being retracted as indicated by the broken lines when the box is shifted to one side or the other of the central position and the :jector finger advancing in the delivery way when the box is returned to the central position indicated in the full lines.
The box and base may be made in sheet material or molded or cast in the desired Iorms, and the two can bequickly and easily assembled. By employing the screw pivot connection 19 in the Fig, 4 construction, the lever 17 may be utilized also asa means for securing the box down in position on the case. i
