WILIJ'A FRANKLIN 0F DETROIT, MICHIGAN,
OI ALGONAG, MICHIGAN ABSIGNOB or elm-rum 'ro HANIOUBE FILE Application filed September '8,
This invention relates to a' manicure file,
the general object ofthe invention being to form the file with longitudinallfy extending gutters in which the filing sur aces are 10- gutters act to hold the file the gutters of different depths so as to facilitate the unis form cutting of nails to any desired length.
Another object of the invention is to pro vide the file with a point at one end and a cutting edge at the other for operating on the cuticle at the base of the nail.
Another object of the invention is to provide the file with a gutter which is smooth on its bottom so that this utter can be used for smoothing the ed e o a nail after the same has beencut an also to provide a flat part on the file, one side of which is smooth, the other side of which is formed with filing surface, one ed e of which fiat part of file is formed with ling teeth 'for use in cutting and clearing out corners of nails.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter full described, illustrated in the accompanying rawings and. specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying'drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a view of the improved file.
Figure 2 is a view taken a quarter turn from Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a view of the opposite side of the file shown in Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a view or" the opposite side from that shown in Figure 2.
Figure 5 is a section on ure 1. i
As shown in these views, the file A is made of round stock, or other desirable shaped stock, embodying the gutter method of a manicure file, with one end pointed, at 1, and the other end tapered and formed with two fiat sides, as shown at 2, this end terminating in a beveled cutting edge 3.
line 5-5 of Figafter 1887. Serial I0. 817,814.
Grooves 4 are formed in the body of the file and extend longitudinall thereof.
These grooves are of ifierent depths andare formed with the file teeth on their bottoms, as shown at 6. One of the grooves is left plain, as shown at 6*, and the file teeth of the groove 6' extends over a flat surface of the point 2, as shown at 6", so that these file teeth can be used for cutting the corners of nails. v
From the fore oing have provided a be used for pushing back the cuticle, and the edge 3 for removing this cuticle. By providing grooves with the filed parts on their bottoms, .the file is held against the nail being cut and by making the grooves of difi'erent depths, the nails can be cut to a uniform length by using the same groove for all of the nails. The lain groove without the filed arts is use for smoothing the nails ing cut and the filed art 6" can be used for cutting the corners o the nails.
It is thought from the foregoing descripit will be seen that I tion that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readil apparent.
I esire it to be understood th changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several arts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is A manicure file comprising a bod formed of round stock with one end pointe and the other end ta ering and provided with two e, the point 1 of which can atI may make flat sides a'n a sharp edge at its extremity,
the body being formed with a plurality of grooves, which extend the length of the body and terminate in the tapered portions one groove being lain and the others having file teeth intheir I ottoms, the teeth of one groove extending over a flat side of the tapered end of the file; i
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
WILLIAM FRANKLIN WILMOT.
