Y., A CORPORATION OF DELA- WARE CARD CARRIER Application filed September This invention relates to a card carrier which is primarily adapted for use in a visible overlapping index whereby the lower margins of the cards exhibit exposed edges.

Tt is an object of this invention to provide an address slip 'upon which a plurality of addresses may be written and which may be associated with the card so that the name and address will be in substantial alinement. The address slipis preferably made removable with respect to its support for typing the address thereon, or for other purposes.

The invention comprises the novel structure and combinations hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out and defined in the appended claims.

In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate a preferred embodiment of this invention and in which similar reference numerals refer to similar features in the different views:

Figure l is an elevational view of the assembled card holder, card and address slip;

Figure 2 is an elevational view of the card holder and attached address slip with the card removed;

Figure 3 is an enlarged sectional view upon the line HI-III of Figure 1, and

Figure i is a plan view of the unfolded l address slip.

As illustrative of this invention, there is shown a card holder comprising a rectangular spacing bar 1 which is adapted to lit in the guideways or channels of a tray or frame, as is well known in the art. A hinge member 2 is stapled or secured to the spacing bar 1. This hinge preferably consists of kraft paper having a weakened hinge line indicated at 3, although any other suitable material may be used. The upper portion of the hinge member carries a pair of eyeleted disks L which are located adjacent the lateral margins of the hinge member. The record card C is adapted to be supported upon these eyeleted studs and for this purpose it is provided with suitable lateral notches 5.

It will be noted that the hinge member extends a considerable distance below the disk 4L and upon one-half of the lower portion thereof are secured a pair of eyeleted disks 5, 1925. `Serial No. 54,841.

6 which are adapted to sustain the address slip 7. This address slip in the present instance is shown as consisting of a folded sheet having suitable notches 5 in its lateral edges for engagement with the eyeleted disks 6. It will be noted that the lateral notches in the address slip are located approximately in the medial line of the folded slipand the same is so-supported that it suspends a suitable distance below the hinge member 2 in order that the lower edge of the address slip may be situated substantially in alinement with the lower edge of the card C.

.In Figure 4L the address slip is shown in `plan view and it will be noted that it has four addresses written upon one face-two addresses being adjacent the end margins and the other two addresses being adjacent the crease where the slip folds. The opposite side of the slip is adapted tocontain the same number of addresses. The addresses should be so arranged that they will always be in proper position whether the slip is inverted or turned back-side foremost. By unfolding the slip and folding it in a reverse manner, four additional spaces will be provided for containing addresses, according to the position in which the address slip is attached. Other notations instead of or in addition to the addresses may be put on the slip 7. However, instead of a folded sheet, the address slip may consist of a single card providing spaces for two addresses on one side and two addresses on the other side. The lower margin of the address slip is eX- posed through a recessed margin on the card C which is sufficiently cut away to exhibit the address on the slip, as -indicated at 8.

Accordingly, the address slip will show one address at a time. This address should, of course, be the present address of the client or customer whose name appears upon the index card C. When such customer changes his address, the changed address may be written upon the upper margin of the front face of the slip and the slip will be inverted to present the new address through the recessed portion. If the customer or client changes his address again, the rear face of the slip may be utilized just as the front. If further changes are necessary, the slip may be folded in a reverse direction for utilizing the other faces of the sheet. In this manner, the index slip will always show both the present and past addresses of the client or customer.

Froin the foregoing', itwill be appreciated that a novel form of card carrier has been provided in which the address of the client is contained upon the removable slip which presents the address inalinement with the naine on the lower margin of the index card. This address slip always provides means for showing the correct address and at the same time reserving, if desirable, the former addresses of a client.

I am aware that many changes may be made, and numerous details of "construction may be varied through a wide range' without departing from the principles of this invention, and I therefore do not purpose limiting the patent granted hereon, otherwise than necessitated by the prior art;

I claim as my invention:

l; In a card carrier, a supporting bar, a hinge member secured to the supporting bar, a card removably supported upon said hinge member and having a portion of its margin recessed, and an address slip supported upon said hinge member with its lower margin eX- posed through the recessed portion of said card.

2. The combination with a card carrier, o-f a card removably supported thereon and having a portion of its lower margin recessed, and an address slip associated with said card and carrier and having its lower margin exposed through said recessed portion.

3. The combination with a card carrier, of a card removably supported thereon, said card having a lower recessed portion, and a folded address slip removably attached to said carrier and having its lower margin exposed through said recessed portion.

4. In a card carrier, a hinge member having a pair of spaced studs, a card removably mounted upon said studs and having a portion of its lower margin recessed, and a second pair of studs mounted upon said hinge member and an address slip removably supported upon said second pair of studs and having its margin exposed through said recessed portion.

5. The combination with a card carrier, of a card removably 'supported thereon, and means on said carrier for removably supporting an address slip, said address slip being supported substantially upon a medial line whereby vthe same may he inverted or turned back-side foremost for the purpose set forth.
